Trump Giving Farmers 12 Billion Dollar Bailout

The U.S. Agriculture Department on Tuesday plans to announce a $12 billion package of emergency aid for farmers caught in the midst of President Trump’s escalating trade war, two people briefed on the plan said, the latest sign that growing tensions between the United States and other countries will not end soon.

The aid package is expected to target soybean farmers, dairy farmers, and pork producers, among others. White House officials hope it will temporarily quiet some of the unease from farm groups, but the new plan could revive debates about taxpayer-funded bailouts and the degree to which Trump’s trade strategy is leading to unforeseen costs.

I am sure our resident conservatives here will be the first to scream about the government picking winners and losers. Not!  For me, it is simply proof of what I said in the other post.  That the American system of capitalism is perversely sick as losses are socialized while profits remain strictly privatized.

Its the right move.   And it should be paid for by the tariffs being employed against China.

I'm glad its Trump engaging in this activity because if it was president Hillary Clinton doing it I'm pretty sure Republicans would have initiated another Civil War by now.    Its been a long time coming for America to get tough on trade.    I dont know that I trust Trump to do it responsibly or fairly ... or with the right adversaries (ie:  not sure I would slap tariffs on Canada where trade balance is pretty fair) but whatever.

Its not free trade when countries penalize our imports and receive no penalites on their exports.     And since the trade imbalance with China is so overweighted in favor of their exports then a trade war is something they cannot win.

This is probably the only front of the Trump administration I (cautiously) approve of.    His vitriol and twitter account aren't helping.

Shocking, I say "shocking" - a somewhat positive post from PJ concerning President Trump. If Obeyme had done the same I am sure that PJ would be first in line to kiss his tush. And there in lies the rub.

But David, you just posted that article yesterday that bemoaned politicians creating problems only to campaign against them. Isn’t that what Trump is doing creating a problem that he has to justify solving with tax dollars?

And PJ our problems with trade don’t have anything to do with Canada, the European Union, and even Mexico. It seems awfully odd that Trump wants to look there first.

Obama did levy tariffs on Chinese tires that were being subsidized and dumped into the UNited States.  By doing so he pretty much saved the primary manufacturing industry of  Akron Ohio.   You know who shit his pants on national televison in the wake of that action?  Trump's current economic advisor, Larry Kudlow....and he was joined by most this board's Fox News disciples.

But I'm not a shameless hypocrite that doesn't have any values like David Miller.   On the rare occassion Trump does something I agree with I will acknowledge it.   And thats the same reason  I dont cry like a bitch when Trump plays golf.

Mark - I dont approve of the actions against western allies to the extent he is engaging in them.  But trade practices are also unfair with those countries too.   I'm much less in favor of those than the actions taken against China.

Shameless hypocrite - that's a good one.  Apparently paying one's own way, working for over 55 years, paying taxes, obeying the laws of our nation, never been in jail (much less prison), serving in the military for 4 years, owing no one, and proud of having a real man in the White House who will not cow down to foreign and domestic wrongdoers while Making America Great Again- yeah, I guess I am a shameless hypocrite - and proud to be one. As long as President Trump is willing and able to work tirelessly 7 days a week for the betterment of our nation, I don't and won't begrudge him playing golf. After living thru that abomination of a President Obeyme and having to endure his lying, harmful effect of being in office and rubbing it in our face with his well publicized, taxpayer funded vacations and shopping trips, much less his golfing around big shotting it (and not doing any actual work)- well, thank goodness his sorry ass is no longer in office. I wait for the day when this traitor has his "legacy" exposed for the damage he has done to America and American citizens. Yeah, I am obviously a shameless hypocrite.

LOLOLOL !....David Miller being a shameless hypocrite in the post where he tries to say otherwise.

I wish I was a smart as PJ thinks he is - it is obvious he isn't.

You guys want to enter into this no-one-can-ever-win argument, be my guest. But let's lay off the name-calling please.
