They might not have asked for one because they were fairly sure the request would be denied! Trump's been threatening everyone associated with the case on IdiotSocial and other platforms. If a jury is selected, all those people will be in danger. The judge can gag-order him, but some other goober lackey will pick up the torch. So the judge may order a bench trial anyway.
Trump's lawyers have been telling him, unsuccessfully, to STFU. He stands a much greater chance of an acquittal with a jury trial, as it would only take one MAGA goober to get him off (it would be much more difficult with a civil trial, of course).
It's SO hilarious to watch the Orange Turd slowly self-destruct. One thing yoy can be sure of--if the smart thing to do is "keep your mouth shut," Trump will not do the smart thing.

It turns out requesting a jury didn't take any complicated legal form, just checking a checkbox. CHECKING A CHECKBOX! And the Trump team couldn't handle it.
