I have really never met a competent or hard working government employee.  If some of you have, more power to you.

Most of them dont make alot of money.  The only real advantage to being a government employee is the pension they receive.  But that requires tenure.   And now Trump is saying  you dont get tenure anymore because he can fire people based upon his loyalty litmus test.

So, Jerry, let me ask you a question.   If you could make half as much money in the Federal Govt vs what you make in the private sector....and now you no longer can count on that Federal Govt pension...would you apply for a Federal Government job?    Do you think any sane person would?   I guess we'll find out.

Charles, do you realize how short staffed the IRS has been since the pandemic? I had to write my Congressman twice when they were short staffed and couldn't give me a timeline on when they would issue me a refund or even have a specialist look at my return.

Twice IRS employees requested I contacted my Congressman to intervene so they could move my return foward.

Once they requested additional documentation and I furnished it. They had the first page and had logged my entire document but lost the other pages and expected me to reproduce them at my expense.

Then there was the time they recived my quarterly tax payment, logged it in and lost it.  They wanted me to write them another check. 😆

Plus, you are going to lose a tremendous amount of revenue. When they don't have enough employees they have to let everything slide by. Any savings from getting rid of the employees will be exceed by the loss of tax revenue.

No sir.

People didnt get busted for cheating before doubling the size if the IRS. Every study shows that every IRS auditor hired by Biden brings in 10X their salary in new found tax evasion collections.

Nobody was ever arrested for tax evasion prior to adding 87,000 people.  What were the original 87,000 doing?

Since these people have only been on the job for a year I doubt there are any studies.

Most of them dont make alot of money

Now for the facts.

How much do federal employees make in a federal salary each year? According to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), at the end of June 2021, the average federal salary was $91,645. The average American salary in 2020 was $56,310. $129,250 is the average federal employee salary in the Washington, DC locality pay area as of June 2021.

Since the data is a few years old, the average salary is now over $100k.

And nobody can explain why the federal expenditures increased 50% in 4 years,  Where did this money go?  Did it accomplish anything?

Tom doubts there are any studies.   I got an idea.   Why dont we just ask the IRS?

Biden's new IRS auditors top 1 billion mark of as of July 11, 2024

"As part of larger efforts taking place, the IRS has stepped up activity specifically on 1,600 individuals whose incomes were more than $1 million per year and who each owed the IRS more than $250,000 in recognized tax debt. Since last fall, this IRS compliance effort has generated more than $1 billion in collections from this group, with work continuing in this area.

“With this collection activity, the IRS passed an important milestone in our effort to improve compliance and ensure fairness in the tax system,” said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. “Our increased work in this area means these past-due tax bills from high-end taxpayers are no longer being left on the table, like they were too often in the past.”

In summary, both Tom and Trump want to screw taxpayers on behalf of millionaires cheating on their taxes.    Well played, sir.

The IRS is underfunded. Multiple studies have shown that every additional dollar spent on enforcement would bring in five dollars in additional revenue.

But genius Tom thinks that would be a bad idea!

Just what every banana republic needs is a heavily armed taxation department looking into every nook and cranny to force pennies out of law abiding citizens and heavy fines for trying to navigate a 100,000 page tax code and missing a line item.

You sure love the heavy boot.  Makes sense for a fascist.

Hard working Federal Government worker.Veterans that are hospitalized will for sure have a hard working Registered Nurse.

According to pj's link only 1,600 millionaires were audited.  So, in addition to the 80,000 employees already in place the IRS needed an additional 80,000 employees to audit only 1,600 millionaires.

Looks like they are overstaffed

Got news for you Tom those millionaires have armies of attorneys and CPAs working for them.  If a millionaire has a 300-person law firm employed to defend his return how many employees does the IRS need to handle just that one millionaire?
