Trump plans to declare "national emergency" during midterms

This idea, floated by MAGA kookoobirds earlier this year and originally dismissed by the Turd, is to declare a national emergency spanning the voting and ballot verifying period. The plan would be to cancel all votes that aren't cast in person and those where the voter didn't have to show ID. The "emergency" would also supposedly allow Trump to seize voting machines and even ballots. The stated pretext would be potential Chinese election interference and/or some nonsense about BILLYUNS OF FEELTHY ILLEGULS voting.

The kookoobirds have stated that the "emergency" would only be declared in blue and swing states. The goal would be to destroy the voting process altogether in those elections and empower the state legislatures or governors to appoint House and Senate representatives. Thus, the plan is to concentrate on those states that have Republican legislatures or governors but may vote Democrat overall--or to concentrate on blue districts within red states.

This would be accomplished by executive order, which would be totally illegal and unconstitutional but would need court challenges to stop it. In the meantime, election results could be delayed for months, or even nullified altogether.

This plot had remained on the MAGA fringe until recently, when the Republicans have seen Democrats win virtually every state-level election and polls suggest that formerly safe House and Senate seats may be in danger. The plan was re-suggested to Trump, and this time, he enthusiastically approved.

I'm not going to post a link, because that alone would prove nothing. Rather, I encourage you to do a Google search on "Republican conspiracy to declare national emergency during midterms" and see what comes up.

Students of history know that interfering with free elections is Step One in the fascist playbook. Hitler did it. Lenin did it. Orban did it. And now Trump will, too.

Probably a good idea.  The Democrats have had decades of manipulating elections from the smallest to national level.  With any luck ActBlue will finally be exposed for the massive fraud its been overtly doing for the last decade or more.

1 Person, 1 Vote, 1 Day.  Enough of the BS cheating.

Why no convictions for this massive fraud? Didn't happen or the Libs own you?

If such a plan is being considered, I agree it would certainly be illegal and unconstitutional.

I don't know of any lawful authorization that would allow the Federal Government to suspend elections or seize ballots.

I hope such a plan would never be tried.

How would State or County governments handle the situation when the Federal Government attempts to stop elections or seize ballots? Would they resist? I believe it would be their duty to do so. Things could get ugly.

I don't think they will try to implement such a plan. But I have certainly been proven wrong before.

What does "1day" mean there? Would you call for an end to voting by mail? Would there be exceptions?

Hypothetically, if physical polls were open multiple days, what would be inherently insecure about that?

Do you feel it is not possible to have mail voting that is secure?

Does one ballot sent to one person, filled out and postmarked by election day with steps taken to ensure authenticity sound reasonable to you?

Personally I enjoy voting "by mail". I receive the ballot early, read through everything that's on it, do any needed research, fill it out at my leisure, then I take it to a ballot drop box.

The thought of having to queue up at a physical location and fill out my ballot in a little booth sounds completely archaic and foreign to me. Almost like going to the local  Western Union office to send a telegram.

You have to realize that Iggo is just spouting a MAGA pet conspiracy theory that like all their bleats, has no basis in fact.

The decades-long Republican crusade to make it harder to vote is based on a hard reality for them: the more people vote, the worse they do. Of course, they don't couch it as such. That's why all the nonsense about millions of phantom voters casting fraudulent ballots.

It is indeed archaic to require physical presence at the polls. We have multiple ways to authenticate a ballot, including, of course, signatures. But again, conservatives hate change and technology and want to do everything the old-fashioned way. They feel we should be riding to the polls in a horse and buggy.

I continually ask this question, but none of our resident MAGA pigs has ever had the balls to answer it:

Why would anyone cast a fraudulent ballot? What would they gain that would be worth risking multiple felony charges?

Well, Iggo?

Don't worry, you'll soon be able to vote on your phone, using your beast-id on the blockchain.  No need to line up with the dirty masses.

Any proof of the statement you make in your second sentence? And I don't mean a link to the Facebook page of some rando MAGA idiot. I mean criminal prosecutions and convictions. Not accusations. Not the Orange Pig spouting "If I lose, they must be cheating."

Now answer the question I've been asking but your type has weaseled away from: What would anyone have to gain from casting a fraudulent ballot--committing multiple felonies while helpfully providing written evidence of those crimes?

Well?

More importantly, no need to devote several hours to the process, which is at the very least an inconvenience for many people, and in many instances, a hardship. I guess you can't imagine that. No need to stand in the rain for hours. And most importantly, no need to line up and be scowled at by ICE agents brandishing automatic weapons.

But as you're MAGA, you don't approve, because your masters want to make voting more difficult, not easier. Gotta stop all those Martians* from voting Democrat, y'know.

I would not support Internet voting. For the same reason I do not support the electonic machines that many jurisdictions use. I believe ballots should be physical.
