The Trump Tax numbers are starting to come into focus

While some in the MAGAsphere are concerned with Sam Darnold's income tax costs, the impact on tarrifs are starting to come into focus.

Trump's tariffs cost American households $1,000 last year: Research group - ABC News

"President Donald Trump's tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 last year, according to new research from the nonpartisan Tax Foundation."

"The cost is set to go even higher this year to $1,300 per household, assuming the existing tariffs stay in place, the research said."

"The research called Trump's tariffs "the largest U.S. tax increase as a percent of GDP since 1993." It suggests the president's signature economic policy is exacerbating cost of living concerns at a time when many households are grappling with persistently high prices."

The Tax Foundation is rated "right-center" by Media Bias Fact Check.

Tax Foundation - Bias and Credibility - Media Bias/Fact Check

"Overall, we rate the Tax Foundation Right-Center biased based on advocating for Libertarian economic policy. We also rate them Mostly Factual in reporting due to a few half-true claims, despite proper sourcing and neutral wording."

This result is entirely predictable and the

longer these tarrifs go on the more damage will occur.

One inevitable consequence I haven't seen discussed much is that tariffs choke off foreign competition for domestic goods. Then those domestic producers can jack up their prices and degrade the quality of their products.

Without competition, American business is shit. Remember how truly awful American cars were in the 1970s and 1980s? Nothing lasted longer than 75,000 miles. Honda and Toyota forced Detroit to make decent cars.

Someone has to reconcile those massive tax cuts we gave to Elon Musk and Ivanka.

Not to mention, how are we gonna pay for Trump's solid gold toilet?

It would be particularly hilarious if he got that toilet from Qatar.

Does he even need a toilet anymore? It obvious from that video a week or so ago that he simply uses his pants and is unware when he fills them. If you watch that video you see Trump has an official sniffer that signals for the room to be cleared when little Donnie makes dookie in his pants.

Then what happens, I wonder? Does somebody come in with baby wipes and clean underwear? What a career move, to become the one who does that!

Although, I suppose it's not that much different from taking care of a cranky toddler who isn't toilet-trained. What happens, though, if he's in some other country trying to bully their leaders? Would they be advised ahead of time about the Poop Peril and be prepared to deal with it?

Given that the Turd seems genuinely unaware of when he poopifies his diaper, maybe he just carries on with whatever he's doing? Lurches along at the golf course while his fellow players look at each other and ask, what's that SMELL?

The role I hypothesize about in the first paragraph reminds me of the very real Keeper of the Royal Stool, which was actually a highly coveted position in Renaissance England. If Trump had such a keeper, it would be equally desirable, because it would be just about the only person who would be able to shove a poison-soaked fireplace poker up his butt.

I wonder if he dropped his pants and pooped on Zelensky when he visited the White House.

Here's another interesting analysis of The Trump Tax and its impact on US consumers. Remember, Congress did not pass this tax; it has been implemented solely at Trump's discretion. Law-making by tweeting.

Costs from Trump's tariffs paid almost entirely by US consumers, NY Fed says | BBC News

"In research released Thursday by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, a group of analysts and economists found that in 2025, the average tariff rate on imported goods rose to 13% from just 2.6% at the start of the year."

"As tariff rates changed and increased last year, exporting countries did not lower the cost of goods in an attempt to ward off any drop in US demand.

Instead, exporters kept their prices the same, passing off the cost of tariffs to any company importing their goods, which in turn responded by increasing the price of those goods to shoppers."

"The reaction from exporters in 2025 was essentially the same in 2018, when Trump imposed certain tariffs during his first term in office"

The same thing happened in 2018. Why would anyone be surprised it's a repeat in 2025?

I think some of you are missing the point here. Yes the idea is to drive up prices so that we buy and make things in our own country that are better and cheaper than the old products that we were buying that were made or sold from ourside the country.  Making things in America is good for our  country

Actually, Brent, you're repeating a fundamental misconception. Every producer--a country in this case--has products it makes better and cheaper than anyone else. It's more efficient for a country to make as much of its best products as possible and use the surplus to trade for the products that it isn't as good at making.

It's called the Law of Comparative Advantage. We CANT make EVERYTHING "better and cheaper" than everyone else, and we shouldn't try.

In point of fact, Brent, "making things in our own country" instead of being an active trading nation grievously hurts us. I know that Trump thinks that trade isolationism is some sort of ideal, but you're smarter than that.
