What you are saying is Trump should be congratulated for not being an even bigger asshole and denying McCain a state funeral even though no sitting Senator has ever been denied one? I do note he was a big enough asshole to refuse to fly the flag at half mast.

Well, what were you implying then? What kind of credit do you think Trump should get for giving McCain the funeral he wanted?
Your first point was also wrong. Stating the truth obviously is something that Mark can not comprehend or condone. I assumed you were right that Trump formally had to request some sort of State funeral.
However, according to the National Cathedral, “All funerals and memorial services at the Cathedral are organized by the family of the deceased; only a state funeral for a former president involves consultation with government officials,” Washington National Cathedral spokesman Kevin Eckstrom said in a statement. “No funeral at the Cathedral requires the approval of the president or any other government official.” Source
So, again, I ask you what did Trump do to give McCain the funeral he wanted other than not show up?
I suspect this is how it went down. Trump was told McCain was being given State Funeral by his staff. Trump flew into an irrational rage ranting and raving like a lunatic demanding that his staff put a stop to it. His staff after plying him with lots of ice cream and lavishing him with praise finally convinced him he shouldn't do that and no one bothered to tell him that he couldn't actually put a stop to it. Their primary concern was to simply keep him from having a public meltdown over it. In Trump's demented mind because he didn't put a stop to McCain's state funeral, he needs to be praised for being the bigger man and he is upset nobody gives him credit for simply not being an asshole.
Trump the cowardly draft dodger continues to spit on McCain the war hero. ANd his base of Putin lovers continue to look the other way.
