Was the Criminal Defendant being evil? Unpatriotic? Criminally careless?

Being the very generous and empathetic guy that I am, I just chalk it up to cognitive decline.

He was probably trying to destroy the evidence at that point.  He told the aide that reported it to the Feds not tell "them'" about the boxes.  He is like Gollum with those damn boxes.
