And we owe ourselves more than that."

Poor old DonDiego opines Mark's knowledge of the extent of Hitler's misbehavior is insufficient, if he believes President Trump is acting like a NAZI.
This may be true. But wouldn't you say the same thing about someone who reflexively points to Orwell's 1984 whenever our government does something he takes issue with?
There is no comparison to be had between Hitler and Trump's attrocities...although that is due in large part to their limits of power. Both men showed contempt for the free press, courts, and the institutions of government. Both men courted one subset of the population by blaming a different subset for all their problems. And both men encouraged violence and vitriol towards their political opponents.
Hitler was in an evironment that allowed him to take action on all these fronts. Trump is largely contained by the checks and balances of our democracy... although he certainly has tested them. It is noteworthy (and a bit unnerving) that half our population thinks a man with his discourse and disposition on these issues should be the leader of our democracy. Luckily its beginning to look like many of those people are having second thoughts. Thats a good thing.
