I dont have a problem with everything Trump is doing economically. The steel tarriffs have been long overdue and I fully welcome them. Most of his action with China is also welcome. They are a dishonest trade partner and should be treated as such. Good for him and his tarriffs with them.
But tarriffs are inflationary. Its just a matter of who pays for it. Most companies try to pass it on to their customers if they can get away with it......they have to calculate how much they can absorb vs what they can pass onto their customers. In the end it is a tax on either the company or customer or both.
I've always supported fair trade practices regardless of who is in the White House. And I also dont blame the sitting president for things like bird flu, OPEC decisions, or supply chain problems which he has no control over.
BUT - I have to confess - I truly enjoy sticking it to disingenuous, partisan hacks who 180 their positions on policy depending on which team is in the White House. All you Republicans who suddenly found religion on tarriffs, foreign slave labor, and trade wars are the same people on this board who reflexively say "Venezeula", "Communists", "Class Warfare", "Nanny State" any time Democrats historically championed those issues. If I got a nickel for everytime someone on this board uttered one of those phrases I could fund my next trip to Vegas,.
