Trump's new Nazi girl lies through her teeth

Democrats at the Senate confirmation hearings pressed Barrett on whether she would rule to overturn Roe v. Wade. She obviously had attended the Mike Pence School of Evasion, as she continually deflected the question. However, she did say that her golden shining ethical compass was to "follow the law" and implied that courts are not intended to create laws.

1. Roe v. Wade is "settled law." Abortion is legal in the United States and has been for almost half a century. Therefore, the Republican challenge to Roe amounts to an attempt to rewrite the law.

2. Trump has said repeatedly that he would only nominate a judge committed to overturning Roe. So does anyone think he didn't specifically ask her? And does anyone think she didn't say, "Yes, Sir, Mister President, I shall serve your wishes in this and anything else you ask of me"?

So while Barrett refused to answer the question, we all know how she's going to vote. We also know that she's going to vote to destroy Americans' health care in the middle of a pandemic. The Senate knows it--both sides.

Our only remedy is to utterly destroy those senators who vote to confirm her--and of course, the orange traitor who instigated this dog-and-pony show. Republicans have actually had the gall to speculate that Democrats will "pack the Court" if they get in power. Well, what is appointing three radical right-wing judges in four years if not "packing the Court"?

This will ensure a Nazi Supreme Court for a generation. And the Republicans are capering and gibbering in joy.

She is not a Nazi. Going over the top and calling her a Nazi doesn't really help.

Well, since nothing actually will help, as in preventing her ascent...

She shares many of the tenets and beliefs of the Nazi party. Control women's reproduction. Decide who lives and who dies--who gets health care and who doesn't. And of course, she is a loyal stooge of the man who just appointed himself Grand Dragon of America's white supremacist groups.

It may be fascism in a shiny new wrapper, but it's still fascism.

I dont know why they bother with the confirmation hearings.   Its 12 hours of "no comment".   And thats not just a criticism of this hearing - thats every Supreme COurt nomination show from the last 40 years.

I'll save you 12 hours of your life today and sum up the transcript:

(Q) Can you give us your opinion on a past case?   (A) No comment

(Q) Can you give us your opinion on a future case?  (A) No comment

(Q) Can you answer a hypothetical question?  (A) No, I cant

(Q) Can you elaborate on something you wrote before? (A) No, sorry.

"Democrats at the Senate confirmation hearings pressed Barrett on whether she would rule to overturn Roe v. Wade. She obviously had attended the Mike Pence School of Evasion, as she continually deflected the question."

Apparently I was watching something else yesterday because I did not see or hear any questions and answers between the senators and the nominee.  That started today.

She did say some telling things.

She referenced LBGT people as making a lifestyle choice rather than their sexual orientation.

When asked how she would approch the issue of Trump unilaterally canceling the election, she said she would keep an open mind.

I have to agree with Kevin. Although I'd call her an authoritarian fashicist rather than a Nazi. I think those terms are more perscise.

Mark, you are referring to today's questions and answers.  Kevin wrote yesterday about questions and answers that were never asked of the nominee.  Yesterday was just allegations and accusations by the senators.

I understand that.  Based on today's answers I think Kevin's gut instinct was right.

Since I made the last post, She said the prior ACA Supreme Court ruling wasn't precedent and that the ACA could be overturned. I'd say that statement guarantees it will be overturned after the election.

It is also a bizarre argument to make from a legal point of view.

Those questions have been asked of her before and were the subject of the opening proceedings. Her statements referred directly to those questions, though she refused to answer them. What you call "allegations and accusations" are serious concerns on the part of Democratic senators and Barrett knows damn well those are on everyone's mind.

Furthermore, she also knows damn well that she was hired by Trump to do the job of destroying Roe v. Wade and the ACA. She sold her soul to Trump in return for a Supreme Court seat.

I agree that until today, there was not a formal question and answer session. However, today, it is going exactly as I said. Lies and evasions by Trump's new stooge.

It's truly horrifying that she will rule from the POV of her conservative dogma rather than reason, logic, and the law.

LBGTQ people don't make a "lifestyle choice." That's been thoroughly debunked.

There is ample precedent for the ACA--including its having survived two SCOTUS challenges.

She's going to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. Trump hired her to do exactly that--he's said so multiple times.

And she would "keep an open mind" if Trump decided to do the Third World dictator routine??? WTF???

We have to crush conservatism in this country. As I said, it's morphed into neo-fascism. The confirmation of Barrett is another nail in our democracy's coffin.
