Trump's right hand man gets prison sentence

Cohen gets jail time for Donny

The judge really isn't buying that whole "personal payment for a private transaction" story the president is floating.   His fixer just got a 3 year vacation in prison - and thats a light sentence in lieu of his cooperation with the investigation.

Soooo....since its now an uncontested fact that the president paid his lawyer to shut up a porn star...and that act has been determined to be felonious and punishable with jail time....what's left?   Our sitting president is officially a crook.

The US Justice Department does not indict sitting presidents by its own policy.    So I guess its what Congress wants to do with it.

It gets even better.  The National Enquirer has entered an agreement with the SDNY.  They admitted they committed felonies in concert with Trump, Cohen and other members of the Trump Campaign to illegally influence the election.

So are all the congressmen who had payoffs to victims during election years going to face feloneous prosecution?

How about Obama's campaign finance violations that were 10X as much as Trump's yet only received a fine:

Can you say two tiered justice system?

No, there isn't a two tier justice system, and to suggest so based on these cases is ludicrous.

If a theoretical congressman's payoffs weren't made through official chanels and the payoff was intended as a cover up rather than compensation to a victim then yes the congressman should face criminal charges.

As to Obama's campaign finance violation, it isn't in the same league. Obama's violation was the result of an administrative error not a criminal conspiracy to keep people from finding out about the last minute donations.

Now, if Obama had called his attorney and said we have to hide these last minute donations so nobody finds out about them, you might have a point.

Simply put, Trump is an unindicted felon, and nothing can change that.

Nobody served jailtime for Obama's clerical errors...because no judge deemed them to be felonious.

But two of three parties in Trump's scam openly confess the secret, undisclosed payments were made precisely to help Trump's election campaign.     The only party left in that scam that denies this context is the same guy who originally said he had no knowledge of the payment at all.    And the judge has ruled this action was indeed felonious.

Entire transcript of the sentencing

"This court cannot agree with the defendant's assertion that no jail time is warranted.    In fact, this court firmly believes that a significant term of imprisonment is fully justified in this highly publicized case to send a message to those who contemplate avoiding their taxes, evading campaign finance laws, or lying to financial institutions or Congress.   Our democratic institutions depend on the honesty of our citizenry in dealing with the government.  And so it is against that backdrop that I am prepared to sentence the defendant.
