The Medal is supposed to be awarded to those who perform heroic deeds or are of great service to their country. Kirk ran around preaching for an increase in gun deaths and got his head blown off. How is that a great service or heroic?

While I am heartily sorry for the despicable cowardly act done to Charlie Kirk, the effect on his wife and children, I have to agree with Kevin that awarding the Medal of Freedom, a knee-jerk act by Trump, IMHO, only lowers the significance of such an award.
Similar to lowering the American Flag to 'honor' just about anybody who dies these days, natural or violent death. Again, JMHO on the flag lowering.
The Medal of Freedom was established by Pres. Harry Truman in to honor civilians whose actions contributed to the WWII effort. No doubt some had performed heroic acts during the war, others performed services of national impact. The first American to receive it was a female, Anna M. Rosenberg, born in Hungary around 1900. Look it up, all she did.

I'll just leave George Floyd here for you lefties. All of you bent the knee and praised him for years after burning down the country causing billions in damages.
In AMerica you have the right to be an asshole, a bigot, and an all around hateful jerk. I think thats a pretty good description of Charlie Kirk. And because we all live in America he should be allowed to speak his stupidity safely and freely. Thats what free speech is all about.
I wouldnt give the medal of freedom to somebody who is on record saying things like:
"Trans people are an abomination and a middle finger to God"
"We should have Nuremberg style trials for every gender affirming clinic doctor."
"Jewish people are intentionally replacing white AMeircans with nonwhite immigrants."
"Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was a DEI hire and only got her job because of affirmative action"
Not to mention the fact that he ironically defended Nancy Pelosi's husband's attacker and called for him to be bailed out of jail.
