The Turd escalates his war with Canada

Bullies are always shocked and dismayed when their intended victims fight back. Now, the Orange Turd has just proposed a doubled tariff (to 50 percent) on Canadian steel and aluminum.

He must somehow think that Canada won't further retaliate. Toronto's premier has already threatened to simply shut off electricity exports to the US. And Canadians may stop buying American products altogether.

What the Turd may not realize is that we need them a LOT more than they need us. They can sell their consumer goods and raw materials to other nations; China in particular has been angling with Ottawa to get favored nation trade status. As far as electricity goes, their existing hydropower infrastructure means that it costs very little to generate, so they can just give themselves virtually free electricity rather than selling it to us.

Oh, and the Turd keeps babbling about annexing Canada. What a STOOOOPID idea, and how STOOOOOPID to talk that way about a nation that USED to be a trusted ally and friend.

This is the asshole clusterfuck YOU voted for, you idiot MAGAs!

Kevin, a large percentage of Canadian GNP is generated from US imports of Canadian goods.  A small percentage of US GDP is generated by Canadian imports of US goods.  Trump has by far the greater leverage.  Canada needs to eliminate unfair tarrifs, duties, and other charges to American producers.  We've asked them nicely for years and that hasn't worked.

I have a large Canadian supplier, and the president of the company tells me that Canadians are scared to death of Trump.  Trump will get the fair playing field that he desires.

What this episode demonstrates is Trump is a clueless dumb fuck shit for brains. Apparently, he didn't know there were states that depend on Canadian electricity.

And now he is all butt hurt over Canada placing an export tarrif on their electricity in retaliation for Trump's tarrifs. A compent leader would know that we get our electricity from the country he is planing to start a trade war with.

Trump will win this battle easily because he has far more leverage, and Canada knows it.  Canada will forced to play fair.

It's still amazing how short sighted Liberals are.

Canada has never done anything but play fair with us. They've been out friends as well.

But since you have only imaginary friends, Boiler, I can see how you might not know how friendship works.

Canada can sell all of its exported goods to other countries, without tariffs and without being bullied, and without having to deal with some assholes threatening to conquer them. And they'll do exactly that if Trump doesnt stop trying to bully them.

Boiler, what he is discovering is that he has almost no leverage. His tiny brain can't comprehend anything that requires more than a 13-year-old boy's intellect.  So, if we liberals are short-sighted what is the end game here? We can see from the facts and Trump's actions it is not a new trade agreement he is looking for. Trump breached the new trade agreement with Canada that he negotiated in his first term.  So please enlighten us Boiler what is the end game with this trade war?

Let's talk more about leverage in the context of something we all know.

In 2023, 1.4 million Canadians visited Las Vegas, according to the LVCVA. That accounts for about 30 percent of all international tourism to the city.

I am sure MGM, Ceaser's, etc are all just sitting back saying no big deal we can absorb that loss no problem.

Then we can take a look at Florida where 3.3 million Canadians visit every year and there are 1 million Canadian snowbirds that divide their time between the US and Canada.

All I see is a bunch of pain coming our way inflicted by one small man. Just wait soon there will be bailouts for farmers, consumers of Canadian electricity, the US auto industry,  Kentucky Bourbon, the tourism industry, Tesla, Starlink, the US aviation industry, and so forth. It will all be added to the national debt.

I can tell you Canada's end game. It is a complete divorce from the United States and the end of a mutually beneficial relationship with Canada that we won't be able to restore once Trump is gone.

I urge you to take a look at Candian social media.  Their citizens are digging in for a long battle and have no plans to surrender to Trump.  They are much more prepared for a trade war than our citizens who are expecting Trump to lower prices as he promised.  Most Americans have no idea what is coming because they are ignorant when it comes to basic economics.  There is great worldwide demand for the energy, aluminum, potash and other raw materials Canada produces so it will be easy for them to find new trading partners and China has already been calling. However, some of those raw materials will be unobtainable for us to get elsewhere in the quantities we need.

The USMCA was the greatest trade deal ever in the whole wide world.    Remember when MAGA said that?

we've gone  from that to declaring a trade war with Canada.     I guess they think the USMC wasn't so great after all.

Canadian trade was not an issue for any voter in the last election.   High prices at the grocery store was the main issue.     Trump is making that issue worse so he can address Canadian trade which nobody gives a shit about

Nope.  And 250% tariffs on dairy products is not fair.  Trump will force Canada to trade fairly.

Its just about to be planting season for farmers here in the US.    Trump better hope Canada doesnt put an export tax on Potash because if they do any and all money saved by DOGE and TARIFFS will be needed to bail out our farmers with welfare checks.
