The Turd Show--same old same old

The Trump coronation-fest concluded last night. There was the usual fulsome praise from luminaries such as Hulk Hogan and some serial killer whose name I don't recall. Then Trump itself came on stage and regaled the crowd with an hour-plus of lies and bombast. Yawn.

Two observations: while there had been talk of the Republiholes softening their message, that was no longer apparent with the Turd. He was just as aggressive and nasty as ever. I don't know how many lies he told--I assume someone fact-checked it--but it was on a par with his lie frequency in the debate.

The other observation is that there were a lot of former apostates there who had previously been vocal Trump critics. It looks like the cult has solidified behind its Dear Leader--or at least, a lot of folks have decided that the only way to have a political future is to fall behind him in lockstep.

And oh yeah, the Fox Nooze etc. talking heads couldn't stop babbling about how the head of the Secret Service wouldn't stick around to be bombarded with attacks from the conservitard reporters. They are, as I predicted, building an asinine conspiracy theory about how Biden orchestrated the assassination attempt. Jesus. They are truly a one-note song.

It was ridiculous to see Scott Walker of all people fawning over and pointing to Trump.  Kevin, I am for just getting rid of both political parties.  It is just a colossal waste of time and $ listening to all this trash.  Yeah, I know that is impossible but let me dream for a minute.

Again, for the 10,000th time on this forum.....how in the world can we have these two candidates?  You and me might as well be the candidates.  We don't like each other but we could find some common ground for the good of the country.  We could figure out some middle ground on all these political issues.  Screw all the campaigns for raising political contributions......just find a few people that can cognitively think and act in the best interest of America.  Is it that hard?!?

Jerry, totally agree......get rid of party politics, and just look to the best interest of America.  Not hard at all.

That's why I haven't voted for a major party candidate for president since 2000 nor have I voted for any presidential candidate in the last two elections.  I plan to do the same this year.  Besides, my vote doesn't matter because of the electoral system.

No, not hard at all. Impossible, but not hard.

You have to keep in mind, when you're thinking of America choosing its best leader(s), that a substantial portion of the population has repeatedly chosen one of the worst possible leaders, and done so enthusiastically. Is there, realistically speaking, any way to re-educate them? I don't see it.

Too many people choose their leaders on the basis of charisma or "strength" rather than ethics or decency. That's a fatal flaw for us, and why the center will not hold.

For me, the sickening part isn't that Trump may win. It's that he has a chance in the first place. I think that means we're fucked, even if Biden or his replacement wins.

I can say that my vote "doesn't matter" because Oregon will go Democrat no matter what, but I think that I can't complain about the demise of democracy and then not participate in it, however flawed it may be.

"The system" doesn't select the best person for the job. It never has. It selects the most ambitious, the most charismatic, and the best-funded. But each of us can fight that by casting our vote for the candidate that we feel is better for the job, even if we only get that choice between the two.

I don't question your decision to vote your way.  I will definitely will be voting down ballot.  I have always voted down ballot.  In 2022, we got within 547 votes of getting rid of the high school dropout who took 5 times to pass the GED and can't round decimals to whole number which is a 5th grade math standard in CO.

My fallback on Presidential elections was to vote for the party that wasn't already holding the office, until 2016. I looked at my ballot and saw Clinton and Trump, I didn't vote for anyone for President that year, a first for me. In 2020 it had to be anyone else but Trump, it's the same for 2024.

I thought Clinton/Trump was the worst choice I'd ever seen, now it's 2024 and Biden/Trump is an even worse choice.

Wow, I was the same.  Didn't vote in 2016 because I didn't think either candidate was worth a damn.  In 2020 I voted for "Not Trump" and in 2024 it will be "Not Trump" again.
