UK, France strike new Ukraine security pact as US takes lead in ceasefire enforcemen

 We will see where this actually goes --- The U.K. and France signed a declaration Tuesday pledging troops for Ukraine under a future peace deal and with security guarantees supported by the U.S. and allied partners. The declaration was adopted in Paris by the Coalition of the Willing and sets out what leaders said was a framework for lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia, set in international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. --The new agreement says that Ukraine’s sovereignty and its ability to defend itself are non-negotiable elements of any peace deal and warned that its self-defense is essential to its own security and wider Euro-Atlantic stability. The US already gave them security guarantees in 1994. We should be honoring that agreement now. 

I believe Barack Obama and The Congress violated this agreement (or at least the spirit thereof) in 2014. Ukraine held up their end of the deal and Obama and Congress renaged on our end of the deal. And now Trump and Congress continue reneging on our part of the deal. 

It is my belief that the US has a moral and legal obligation to help protect Ukrainian territory, with troops if necessary. We gave them our word in 1994 and we are only as good as our word. 

I hope we can find a way for Ukraine to retain all their stolen land and bring peace to the region. 

 I find it amazing how these topics always end up with President Trump as always being the target/focus of something that the DemocRATs did or ignored the previous 4 years of the brain dead Biden administration. Do you ever get tired of blaming President Trump for the actions of others?  Try growing up and placing responsibility to where it actually belongs. Remember, brain dead Biden caused the current Russia/Ukraine situation by being a limp wristed imbecile, a war that never would have happened if President Trump had of been in office. Saying that President Trump and Congress are continuing to reneg on the deal is horse shit. There is only so much that could be done with the situation after it had been allowed to esculate to where it now is by the gutless brain dead Biden administration. Your solution is to involve American troops in a war that America has nothing to do with - Just how ignorant is that? President Trump has ended wars and you want him and America to become involved in another. Europe is FINALLY doing what they should have done for years. 

I don't believe I blamed Trump exclusively. He inherited a pretty big mess in that regard. 

I put most of the blame on Barack Obama and the 2014 Congress. I thought that was clear in my post.

 It certainly was not my intent to remove blame from Biden as he was responsible too. But the war started in 2014. Two years before he took office. 

We made an agreement with Ukraine in 1994 that we would help them protect their borders. Three presidents have reneged on that deal. 

    No you did not blame President Trump "exclusively', but you stated it in a way that insinuated that he did not care to honor an agreement that he had nothing to do with - an agreement that, as you rightfully stated, Obeyme and brain dead Biden ignored. President Trump has actively and diligently tried to end the war - something that neither Obeyme or brain dead Biden did. Biden gave the Ukraine Billions of dollar and received nothing in return except for Zylenski coming back for more, time and again, which Biden granted., President Trump got the Ukraine to give Ukranian mineral rights to America for any further assistance that America would deliver. This war will (hopefully) end and it will be because of the actions President Trump has taken to get Europe involved and  with his actions to get Putin and Zylenski to stop the war. 

I don't remember Ukraine giving up minerals being part of the deal that we signed in 1994. 

   But it was/is part of the deal President Trump negotiated with Zylenski when President Trump regained office. What happened in 1994 President Trump did not have a hand in. What is your fixation with President Trump? In less that a year he has done more then Obeyme and brain dead Biden did in 12 years. 

I don't feel like I fixated on trump. I feel I spread the blame around. I just feel like the last three presidents reneged on a deal that Ukraine has held up their end of. I don't feel like agreements we make with other countries should reset every 4-8 years when a new president takes over. 

Presidents are morally and legally obligated to honor existing agreement whether they "had a hand in them" or not. Trump thinks, and David supports, that he can blithely break whatever treaties or formal obligations that he wasn't part of.

David mentions some guy named "Zylensky," which is not the name of anyone Trump has talked to, and which shows how little thought or attention David has given to this issue.

Demanding loot from Ukraine in return for military aid is shortsighted, selfish, and idiotic. If Russia prevails in this war, the security of the entire world will be threatened. It's in our most fundamental interest to assist Ukraine, without demanding that baksheesh be stuffed into Trump's pocket.

Trump thinks exactly that, that he can break whatever treaties and abrogate any obligations that he wasn't part of.
