I've never spoken out against the tariffs.

Here is an article from Financial Times indicating that Trump proposed a 60% tariff on all goods imported from China plus the 100% tariff on Chinese EVs coming through Mexico.  He also stated that he would impose a 100% tariff on all goods from countries that moved away from using the dollar for trade.  In addition, he has proposed a 10%-20% tariff on all goods imported from other countries.  Like my fellow Coloradan Max, I have no problem with targeted tariffs when countries are dumping goods into this country.  I'm not for blanket tariffs on all imported goods.  To remind DM again, I am still a registered Republican and have been since the first time I registered as an 18 year old.  I haven't voted for a major party candidate for president since 2000 and don't plan to this time.  I concentrate down ballot.     This is true, you havn't - I stand corrected and apologize. What you have said is that the country upon whom the tariff is placed does not pay the tariff, the importer does. What you did not say - in your previous posts concerning tariffs, because of the higher price this amounts to, consumers buy less of a product which means that the country who produced the product ends up selling less of their product to the U.S. Here is a simplified and concise explaination of tariffs and their effect - What Are Tariffs? Tariffs are a type of trade barrier imposed by countries in order to raise the relative price of imported products compared to domestic ones. Tariffs typically come in the form of taxes or duties levied on importers and eventually passed on to end consumers. They're commonly used in international trade as a protectionist measure, with the aim of advantaging domestic producers and raising revenue.

Tariffs are "passed on to consumers." Therefore, Trump's assertion that China would pay his proposed tariffs is dead wrong, absolutely, stupidly wrong.

Oh, and Trump DID propose a blanket 100% tariff on imported Chinese goods. He's also proposed a 60% tariff, a total trade ban on China, and a 100% tariff on nations that don't transact in dollars--WHICH WOULD INCLUDE CHINA.
