How about the USA mens hockey team. That was fun. Great to see and hear the pride about being an American. The celebration was fun.

I agree 100%. Great game and a well earned win.

I've never, ever understood that nationalist sentiment about the Olympics. People treat it as some kind of bloodless war and get all prideful about success and angry at failure.
The Soviet Union used to treat the Olympics as just that--an opportunity to "prove" their "superiority." That's why they cheated so much; they tried to turn the Olympics into the Cold War.
How on earth does "your" hockey team winning make you "proud"? Are you on that team? Know anyone on it? Have anything to do with it? Support it financially? Or are they just a dozen or so complete strangers?
Here's what makes me proud. Thousands of extremely talented athletes from all over the world gather and showcase their talents. The competition is friendly, even among athletes whose home countries don't have good relations. For two weeks, in one place at least, there is an oasis of peace and goodwill. The world is entertained, and yes, while we're watching, we don't have to think about shit like Trumpiffs or ICE murders.
So since I consider myself a a member of the human race first and an American second (which some snide asshole will undoubtedly say means I'm "unpatriotic"), I'm equally proud of the hockey team from Liechtenstein or Burkina Faso that showed up and lost every game by seven goals.
The Olympics is one big party and showcases some of the best features of humanity. Does anyone care who "wins" at a party?
First gold medal in 46 years. The guy just lost his front teeth and was so proud of being an American. Also the show of love for the 2 players who were killed by a drunk driver, Just pure joy to watch and a good look for our country.

I don't see why anyone would think that a team or individual won a gold medal because of their "Americanness" or for that matter, their "Norwegianness" or their "Japaneseness."
That said, I know that many people believe in American "exceptionalism," which is at its best national pride and at its worst, jingoism and nationalism.
Can we agree that America wins many gold medals because we're a very large AND rich country, and therefore have many young athletes who have the time and the resources to reach Olympic competitive level? It isn't about, as so many people seem to say, our inherent superiority or nobility or some such tommyrot. It's because the people in our country who have the potential to become Olympic athletes often do so, while in other countries, such people find themselves digging ditches to support their families as soon as they turn fourteen.
Or to put it more simply, did our hockey teams win gold medals because they were Americans?
Like Vegas, kevin hates America and anytime anytihing good happens to America he hates it.

Is it that much different than rooting for any sports team? Do you root for your home team at a football or baseball game?
Or do you have a favorite team you root for in different sports?
I thinks it's pretty cool that the USA men's hockey team won the gold medal for the first time in 46 years. Kudos to them.

I don't consider the sports teams where I live to be an element of my identity. Nor do I consider them to be an element of my city's, state's, or country's identity.
Really, isn't it stupid to be "proud" of something you have absolutely nothing to do with? And if you're proud when "your" team wins, shouldn't you be ashamed when they lose???
You see, I view tribalism as the second greatest source of human misery, death, and destruction, second only to religion. And there ain't no greater display of tribalism than sports fandom.
I do on occasion have a mild desire for one team or the other to win, but I primarily watch sports to see good performances and artistry, by "my" team or "theirs." It matters not which.
