Vegas and the virus

I posted this on another Forum topic -Don't be surprised if the Governor reverts back to Phase 1. What we are seeing is what many expected. There is a certain percentage of the population that has no common sense, but they will always exercise their "rights" to do whatever they want whenever they want. The virus and the worldwide pandemic are real. Hundreds of thousands of deaths are undeniable proof. In preparation for welcoming guests, the casinos and other Vegas businesses can do only so much to prepare. The current "guests" are the problem - people that refuse to follow logical, workable guidelines. The virus is highly contageous, thru the air and on touched surfaces. Smoking should be out of the question. Wearing a mask should be required when entering and while in a casino or business. No exceptions. The number of  infected viral cases have risen and continue to rise daily in Vegas, and the number of deaths are increasing. This is a direct result of the continued influx of Vegas visitors and their refusal to adhere to proven guidelines. These people care nothing for others, they only care about themselves. The very things that make Vegas attractive are counterproductive to safety. Massive crowds, alcohol infused people, the sights and sounds - all of these spell disaster and are welcome breeding grounds for the spread of this virus. But you don't have to take my word for what I have written, just observe as the days pass and make your own decisions. Be smart. -------------------------- The reason I repost it here is thus - I have rescheduled my anticipated trip to Vegas, via Southwest, at least 4 times. Southwest allows one to reschedule at no additional cost, one of the reasons I like Southwest. (Commercial over.) - I have rescheduled because of what I stated in the aforementioned posting you find above. I will continue to reschedule for a later trip ( as long as Southwest allows) until I feel Vegas to be safe enough to visit. I am now looking at a trip the end of July into August. Maybe by then Vegas will have this virus protocall finalized and in place. We shall see. In the meantime, I suggest that all of you be careful and stay well.

It's doubtful that much will have changed in a couple of months. As far as reverting to Phase 1---not a chance. The casinos absolutely do not want that, and in Nevada, the casinos ARE the government--just look at the insane blowback that Sisolak received when he suggested a couple of months ago that "opening up" should be slowed down or postponed.

I can't imagine any scenario that doesn't include a proven vaccine wherein I would even consider visiting Vegas again. Aside from the danger, I doubt that it would feel remotely the same. I like shows and buffets, and so far, there are only pale imitations of both. And of course, the tables and the machines will be strange experiences at best. Watch a game in the sports book? What game?

I've been watching for bargains that I might wish to use six or so months from now. So far, I haven't seen much that the casinos are willing to float to encourage customers. That would be the only incentive I could think of that MIGHT get me there. Otherwise, it just ain't worth it.

Southwest is the only airline I ever use--not that I would consider getting on a plane these days. Sigh.
