Vegas Strip showgirl stabbing today

According to the State Department, nearly 4 million people are currently waiting abroad in the family-based immigration backlogs with some of the waits exceeding 20 years.

Does anyone here have any actual, factual, true, documented cases of this line jumping?  And since "illegals" seem to be the hottest area of the topic, breaking it down to legal/illegal, that would lend credibility to any of these posts.

OF COURSE there is likely to be 'line jumping.'  Of course people enter the country illegally.  Who amongst those sounding out here about this is so familiar, so actually ingrained in the process(es) that involve citizenship or other categories of legal entry, permanent or temporary?  Do you work for the departments that handle this stuff?  Which agency do you handle, because it isn't like one office where all applications go.  Are you a signatory that perhaps moves Pedro ahead of Jose?  Who can cite the many categories of legal entry, the requirements for each?  And how applications are sorted, categorized, prioritized, background-checked, stamped yes or no?

My point...just arguing back and forth like you all do is a waste of your time unless you have something other than personal angst against either side of the aisle in Washington.

Candy, a major reason why there hasn't been any reasoned debate here is that our resident right-wingers call ALL immigrants "illegals" and characterize those who present themselves peacefully and legally at the border to request temporary residence or asylum as criminals. This mischaracterization feeds the conservitard narrative of million of slavering subhumans "flooding across the border." This, in turn, sells lotsa tickets to Trump rallies and enables clowns like Abbott to mask their incompetence by bleating about "the immigration crisis."

But the reality? A lot of people want to come here. Same as for the last 200 years. We have a complex but fair system in place. And conservitard bleating notwithstanding, it works.

The lack of enforcement is due to resources more than anything else. But there's another factor. 80 percent of "illegals" were originally admitted legally--they've overstayed their work or student visas. If they're living and working peacefully, should we really be sending SWAT teams to track them down, club them into unconsciousness, and nail them into crates?

The final consideration is that immigration, both legal and illegal, has been a net positive for us, socially and economically. (For instance, it helps offset the problems of an aging population: see Japan, which admits almost zero iimmigrants.) So we should welcome it, not scream about it.

Kevin, that is a well reasoned post about this complex issue.  Tom's comment is informative as well.  Thanks.

1 out of 10 workers in Las Vegas fits your description

And since all of the casinos openly say they are understaffed it begs the question as to why Tom is so constipated about them cleaning his hotel room and washing his dishes.

Under staffed casinos, without competition from illegal workers, would either fold up shop or pay citizens higher wages.  That's how it should be.

Americans first.

How idiotic.

What would Boilerman's salary/benefit package requirement be to wash dishes or clean toilets?

Let us know....then we can inform Mar-A-Lago and the Las Vegas casinos.

That's an idiotic argument. They would much prefer to hire native workers, but they're not willing to pay the wages those workers demand. So rather than cut into those record-breaking profits they've enjoyed recently, they hire illegals.

The casinos have PLENTY of money to pay people a living wage. Don't blame the people they hire for less. It's a decision the casinos make.
