Spoiler alert....and a warning to anyone who gets anxiety from "wokeness". The new blockbuster film, The Odysey, is fueling outrage in the same people who couldnt handle Cracker Barrel's logo change.
In Christopher Nlan's adaptation - Helen of Troy isnt a caucasion. And Matt Damon's character Odyseus suffers from guilt and PTSD from his years of war instead of hyper-Masculine-war-hunger like Pete Hegseth.
If you suffer from MAGA crybaby syndrome you should avoid this film at all costs.
I really want to see that film. I like that Helen of Troy isn't a stereotypical Playboy blonde. For the last several decades, Black people in adaptations of Shakespeare and other classical plays have played "white" roles, and vice versa. It really really really really really twisted some sexuality-insecure MAGA panties--at first, anyway. A Black Hamlet. EEEEEEEK! A white Othello. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!
Anyone who's read the Iliad and the Odyssey will approve of the portrayal of Odysseus. He is extremely war-weary and homesick. He's a man who is certainly a warrior but that isn't his calling or his desire.
War is not fun and it disrupts and destroys lives. That message in the ancient work and in this film adaptation is clear and stark, and it would be nice if it could be pounded into the thick skulls of MAGAs.
