Welcome to Harry Reid International Airport!

Hmm, . . . poor old DonDiego will have to start taking the bus instead of flying.

You mean to tell me that you use those new horseless carriages?  Well, I'm glad you finally made it into the 20th century.  Now you are only one century behind!

Why "boooo"? Because he was a Democrat?

He was one of the most influential figures in Nevada history. He also--and this, I think, is key to the airport being named after him--was very much a champion of Nevada's interests.

No, not at all.

It could have been renamed Siegfried &Roy International, or Elvis International, or Debbie Reynolds International, or Las Vegas International (well, that might be OK) and I'd still say I don't like changes.  It has been McCarran since my first time to Vegas.  I'm just used to thinking of it as McCarran, that's all.

Maybe they should have named it for someone with Vegas connections and a better reputation, like Mike Tyson.

Or Fat Elvis international.or Crazy Girls Airport.

My wife and I will never fly into the Las Vegas airport ever again. That means I have no skin in the game and don't care what they name it. I do understand the current political climate and see why it happened. Evidently McCarran was a racist antisemite that tried to legislate his views. Speaks volumes about the Nevada legislature of the time. Now, is there a statue of him that can be torn down?

It would be an unfortunate misjudgement to the memory of  Patrick Anthony McCarran, perhaps the man most responsible for the development and growth of the Las Vegas Airport bearing his name.

See: Nevada Trivia

Not to mention replacing someone who is known for doing something good for all Las Vegas citizens with a political hack, who'll lie when he has to, . . . and then brag about it.

For example:

"During the summer of 2012, Reid said during an interview with The Huffington Post that he had received information from an unidentified investor in Bain Capital that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney did not pay any taxes for 10 years.  The accusation was repeated on the Senate floor by Reid on August 2, 2012.  According to CBS News, Romney stated, "Let me also say, categorically, I have paid taxes every year -- and a lot of taxes. So Harry is simply wrong."

PolitFact.com's Truth-O-Meter rated the accusation as "Pants on Fire!".  The Washington Post's Fact Checker gave it "Four Pinnocchios".  CBS reported that Romney had submitted 23 years of tax returns to the John McCain campaign in 2008, when he was being vetted for the vice presidential nomination. McCain said, "[n]othing in these tax returns showed that he did not pay taxes."

After the election, Reid called the attack "one of the best things I've ever done". He also said, "Romney didn't win, did he?"

Harry Reid, . . . just another crooked political hack.

Thats right - Harry Reid lied.   And thats a big problem for those who voted for a president  who ran a campaign surrounding his black predecessor's Afrtican birth certificate...and a much bigger problem than Pat McCarren's legacy of corruption, bribes, anti-semitism, and McCarthy-ism

Thank you for that.

It does kind of take the steam out of faux indignation about Harry Reid, doesn't it? I mean, I certainly remember our resident conservatives reacting with shock and indignation when the Republican Party claimed Barack Obama isn't an American. Or when they lied about Hillary's nefarious emails. Or when they claimed that the 2020 Presidential election was "stolen." Or...did our resident conservatives react at all, except to cheer?

Yes, Republicans' abiding and honorably steadfast regard for the truth certainly entitles them to be puffed up with indignation about Harry Reid lying. They are and always have been the party of absolute 150% truthy truth.

I think there is merit in renaming a public facility when the person after which it's named was a corrupt, racist, antisemitic, McCarthyist grifter. But yes, he was a hero to the power brokers of the time. Not despite the fact that he was a jerk, but precisely because he was a jerk. Remind you of anyone? Hint: he's orange.

Where was your outrage when Trump--who you so enthusiastically supported--lied 30000 times in four years?  Does that make him 30000 times the "crooked political hack" that Reid was?

WOW, you mean there's a politician with a 50+ year career in office and his opponents can only point to one lie?

One?

ONE?

ONE!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't buy it. No politician is that magnificent!
