What happened to the MAGA promise of American energy independence?

Dang, I was right about "drill, baby, drill" from day 1!

Better to get OPEC to pump more and also take over a foreign country's oil than to "drill, baby, drill" in the US. I said that all along, of course, I had no idea wanna be dictator Trump would take over Venezuela's oil.

U.S. oil producers ‘slighted’ by Trump’s international focus on crude in Venezuela and Greenland | Fortune

"Although the U.S. is, in fact, churning out barrels of oil near all-time highs, Trump’s “Drill, baby, drill” ethos is ringing hollow amid weaker oil prices and waning drilling activity."

“I think everyone feels a bit slighted here,” the CEO of one big U.S. oil producer told Fortune, requesting confidentiality to avoid any potential reprisal from the Trump administration."

Don't speak poorly of Trump, or he will come after you like a schoolyard bully. We have a mental child as President.

"The U.S. benchmark for crude oil is sitting at just under $60 per barrel, the threshold below which American oil producers struggle to profit and justify new activity. And the number of active oil-drilling rigs has plunged about 15% for the year as of Jan. 16. "

Fewer rigs, some amount of oil being pumped as before?!?!!? Amazing! Oh, that's right, I said that last year, the MAGA push for "drill, baby, drill" wouldn't help US shale producers. Such simpletons.

Well technically one could argue that if we take over a country then their oil production becomes US oil production and is then "domestic"

So to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi  what they say is true, "from a certain point of view".

Haha

Biden spent 4 years ruining the oil industry in the U.S, -  President Trump has taken 1 year to set up future drilling that will certainly be taking place in the future. As usual, you have nothing to say condemning the actions Biden took while attempting to ruin America- and all you can do is criticize the efforts being made by President Trump to right those wrongs.

Due to democrat rules, 2 of California's refineries will shut down in the first half creating a 300k barrel shortfall.  This shutdown cascades into Az and Nevada who get 80+% of their fuel from CA.

Gas prices just went up - again - in California.

Those refineries wouldn't be shutting down if not for weakening demand. The owners decided not to make mandatory upgrades.

Thank Trump for his ruination of the economy. We don't need as much gas because no one can afford to travel. So much losing!

As they have everywhere else...as they always have this time of year.

But gee, if you're so concerned about gas prices, drop your orange master an email and ask him to remove tariffs on imported Canadian fossil fuels.

Simpleton Tom, Millerpig, and Boilerboob all told us we have to drillboobydrill because, uh, um, the thousands of oil leases that aren't being used for production are...all commies? Owned by space aliens? Or maybe they're all ILLEGULS?

Trump trying to conquer Venezuela for its oil is like a child trying to steal candy from a store the day after Halloween. Or maybe like a millionaire robbing a bank.

There are a host of things causing this, some of which Kevin mentioned.  And yes, Cali's higher economic standards are part of this.....but your post makes it sound like that's the only reason, and it isn't.

They are actually about the same, but are 10 cents cheaper on average than in Dec. 2025.  I actually paid $3.49 a gallon at Costco in Riverside, which is as cheap as I've seen it in weeks.

Some folks just post stuff to see what kind of reaction they will get.
