Tossing this in just to stir things up:
I grew up in the era of Playboy and later Hustler. Hugh Hefner, Playboy magazine, the Playboy Club, Playmate of the month, etc. These were overtly worshiped in the public arena. Wives turned their heads while hubby subscribed. [Disclaimer: Definitely not in my household. As us teens did sleepovers we saw many a Playboy mag in the house of the host teen, often military dads. Not sure I ever saw a Hustler.] Flynt was known for purveying porn etc.
The famous quote about Playboy, something like "yeah, we just read it for the articles." LOL.
It can't be denied, the cultural acceptance of this AT THE TIME segued into acceptance of worse things being promoted...accepted and near-impossible to prosecute...e.g. sexual abuse of females, sex trafficing.
Just wondering. Never heard any outcry about Hefner or Flynt. They were like America's heros, especially Hefner.
Of course, Internet hadn't been invented at the time.
Just thoughts.
