They made themselves look stupid recently when, in a fit of pique that the climate and tax bill was going to pass the Senate after all, they voted against bills to help veterans and to reduce Medicare prescription drug prices--even though many of them had previously supported those measures.
So it became obvious that they don't give a shit about doing anything or helping Americans. They just want to obstruct. Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. And then, of course, bitch and whine that nothing is getting done.
The standard party line speech was that "taxes and spending are bad." And when it was pointed out that the bill would be paid for by better IRS enforcement plus a minimum tax on corporations that weren't otherwise paying any taxes at all, they sneered and said it wouldn't work--even though several nonpartisan agencies have confirmed that the bill is indeed revenue-neutral.
Hopefully enough voters will remember which party actually does things to help Americans and which party sits around and picks its nose.
