When I was younger, I wondered why old people were so crabby (as they put it in Peanuts) so often. Now, I realize, all sorts of things don't function right, all sorts of things hurt, you can't do all the things you used to enjoy, friends and relatives get sick and die...it's no bowl of cherries. I knew that on an intellectual level, but I still thought that old people should be calm and gracious to others anyway, because none of those problems are the other persons' fault. But suffering pain, especially nagging pain, makes it much harder to observe the social niceties.
Honestly, I wish David would get some help. I can't imagine spending what time I had being so angry about everything.
