Nope, the founders wanted to create a Constitution that all the states that were part of the Articles of Confederation would ratify.
The slave states said no you can't have purely Democratic elections because we would lose every election and then you guys would abolish slavery. You have to make our votes in the slave states worth more than the votes in the non slave states.
So you and the party you vote for clings to the systems created to preserve slavery because your ideas are so unpopular you can't win without giving the rural white voters a special deal.
