Who I'm remembering on Memorial Day

Our democracy is dying. It's quite possible that we've already held our last free election. One-party rule is slowly tightening its grip. And our fascist leader and the people who slavishly support him have shown us their complete disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law.

But what's worse is that somewhere around half of Americans LUVVVV all that. They want to be ruled by a "strong" man. They're ruled by fear--the dictionary definition of a conservative--and are willing to give up their rights--and ours--to placate it.

So I want to use this occasion to honor two people who died to protect those freedoms that are being slowly extinguished. Two people who were killed while exercising their rights and protecting those of others.

Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Executed in the streets of Minneapolis by fascist thugs, by the direct order of Emperor Trump. Our country may forget what you died for, but I won't, and neither will every good American. I humbly thank you.

I'm sure I'll get some sort of responses defending what was done and attacking and insulting me for criticizing Noble Dear Leader Trump. Those responses will starkly illustrate the disease I referred to in my second paragraph, above.

I do realize that very soon, a post like this will get me arrested and dragged off to a camp--or maybe just hunted down and shot.

No need to "attack" you - your post says all one needs to know about your perception of reality and values.

And your constant slavish defense of those two murders--and their murderer, Trump--says "all one needs to know" about you. Now go lose a bunch of money in Vegas.

I won't miss this lying stupidity.

You're not going to leave here--you CAN'T, despite your pompous pronouncements--so you're not going to miss anything. Not for one day.

Relax--I'll continue to demean you, disparage you, refute and school you, and respond to all of your "topics" with ridicule and disdain. I won't let you get away with anything. I'll clean all the Miller off the sidewalk every day. And you won't be able to leave.

We just wonder why you bother to announce, periodically, that you're taking your ball and going home waah waah. You never actually do. You're addicted to all of us "lying liberals."

We control you.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday for honoring and mourning military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Any individual can 'honor' anybody they wish to on any day of the year.

But Memorial Day is to remember, with honor and dignity and appreciation, the fallen who gave their lives in service for the freedoms we have enjoyed and still enjoy.

Which is precisely why I chose to honor those two individuals.

Candy, I'm not a child; I know that Memorial Day is supposed to be reserved to mourn for and honor those who have died in military service. But a LOT of civilians have died doing the same thing the military has been tasked with doing: defending and preserving our freedoms. And the right to protest is sacred and unequivocally encoded in our laws.

Renee Gold and Alex Pretti gave their lives for that right. So they deserve just as much honor and respect as those who landed on Omaha Beach.

Alex Pretti was a person of service, who was actually attempting to help some that was in need......and then was killed.   While he wasn't in the Armed Services, he was a person that provided service to others.

Kevin just so happened to honor Alex today, which is his perrogotive.

I hope you had a very nice Memorial Day.

We have Memorial Day to honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the Armed Forces. --- What happened to Gold and Pretti, though regretable, has nothing to do with the long standing, official meaning of Memorial Day.

If I choose to honor someone on Memorial Day who, while not a member of "the Armed Forces," died defending our country, that's my business, not yours, and I don't need your fucking permission.
