Let's assume that Biden is persuaded, after all, not to run. Who would be the best candidate?
Note that I'm not saying "Who would have the best chance of beating Trump?" Anyone would beat him. A moldy sack of used pocket lint would beat him. So the real question is: "Who would be best to become the leader of the Democratic Party as well as its Presidential candidate?"
I have my personal favorites, but I won't mention them now. I can only reflect that there isn't an obvious choice, no one waiting in the wings, as it were. On the evil side, you have Vance preening himself and hoping to get on the ticket, just in case Trump croaks. But you have no self-appointed heir to the throne on the Democrat side.
Is it possible that everyone's waiting to see if Trump winds up in the clink? Or maybe...there have been machinations going on for some time and the anointed one, whoever he or she may be, is poised to leap up to the podium the next time Biden falls off of it?
