A married couple whom I've known for 40 years lost their home in the 2018 fire in Paradise, CA. They barely got out with their pets; they lost everything, including all of the artwork she had produced in her lifetime. Her brother and his girlfriend lived two miles away; their home was destroyed. Her sister lived five miles away; her home was damaged, not destroyed, but she lost all her farm animals, buildings, and equipment, and therefore, her livelihood.
They're all doing better now, rehoused and back to the work they were doing before. But it took them years to recover. The pandemic hit just as they were starting to pull it all together. They're all staunch Republicans, but they're also nice people. We'd had political disagreements in the past, but nothing major.
Did I pull a David Miller and call them and gloat? Did I act like Millerscum and say that God had punished Paradise for being a Republican stronghold (Paradise, being largely a retirement community, has always voted strongly Republican)? Did I make social media posts saying that their town had burned down because the mayor was a Republican?
No.
And that's the ultimate difference between me and people like Millerscum, Boilerboob, stupid asshole Tom, and Charles the Worst. It isn't politics. It's that I'm a decent person, and they're not.
I'm sure they'll ramp up the invective now. But they've already shown us what they are. APPLAUDING the California fires. Jesus Christ!
