Why is the GOP Judiciary Committee holding crime hearings one of the safest big cities in the US.

That very safe city is, of course, New York City.

Why don't they hold hearings in areas with MUCH higher crime rates? Like Kevin McCarthy's Bakersfield and Jim Jordan's Lima Ohio.

Looking forward to an answer to this!

Gym is afraid that his history of protecting a serial sex offender will come up if he holds a hearing in Ohio.

It's a desperate attempt to bolster the myth that Democratic places are ridden with crime, while Republican places are peaceful nirvanas. That can, of course, be blown to smithereens by simply comparing crime rates between Democratic cities and Republican cities. Or states. Or counties. Or public bathrooms. Or whatever.

Because a bare statistic is meaningless without context or comparison, the RepubliQ "arguments" always consist of picking out one large Democratic city and bawling about its crime rate. Our resident conservitards LUVVVV to do that.

Another day in mark's "safe city"  These things happen on a daily basis

Sure, the crime rate is still lower than in a lot of Red State cities. You would think Jordan would be interested in making sure the cities his constituents live in are safe rather than NYC.

The homicide rate in Jim Jordan’s state of Ohio is 49 percent higher than New York City's homicide rate.

In addition, Ohio's statewide homicide rate is also 87 percent higher than New York's statewide rate.

What did you expect ?  He's also ignoring the millions of self dealing Trump did with taxdollars in addition to the billions his Son in Law got from the Saudis.   Because the real corruption is Hunter Biden's laptop.

Now for some context

Prior to Rudy Giuliani becoming mayor, NYC murders exceed 2,200.  Under Giuliani & then Bloomberg murders dropped to 419

A review of the attached charts show that NYC was near the top in 1991 but by 2012 had declined to near the bottom.  Since NYC was so safe by 2018 its base was low.  So even though NYC has had double digit increases it is still considered when compared to other cities.  But double digit increases in violent crime is not good

Ask Tom if he supports implementing Giuliani's gun control and numerous civil suits against the gun manufacturers.

And cime went down nationwide when the CLinton Administration signed the Crime Bill.   Rudy's city was one of many examples.

Manhattan, a jurisdiction of 1.6 m people, had 78 murdered in 2022.  Palm Beach County, Florida, a jurisdiction of 1.5 m people (including one Toadstool Trump), had 96 murders.  Why is Jordan in Manhattan?
