Why is it bad to search for government fraud?

"Myth vs Reality

"Myth:  The federal workforce has become bloated due to a substantial increase in civilian employees over the last several decades.

"Reality:  Since 1968, the size of the federal civilian workforce has decreased by 2.9%, while the private-sector labor force has increased by about 140%, and the U.S. population has increased by about 77%."

"POTUS' and DOGE's broad brush slashing and burning reflect a lack of appreciation for the day to day work of the public servants keeping our government working on behalf of all American people.  They work day in and day out with little fanfare to ensure the national defense, protect citizens from terrorism and other crimes, care for veterans, deliver our mail, run indispensable programs such as Social Security and Medicare to provide income and health security in retirement, provide critical information regarding the weather and relief to those devastated by it, ensure the water we drink drink and the air we breathe is clean, and much more.  They are an essential part of solutions to the challenges facing our government and our nation.  They should not be treated as the problem."

20,000 jobs have been cut, contracts cancelled and does anybody notice they are missing?

When a business loses as much money as the govt does, it must cut costs.

Quite correct, Candy. A large part of the misapprehensions about what government does is that it keeps stuff from happening that would otherwise be devastating AND costly--OR, it mitigates the cost. But the ignorant don't see that.

For instance, what's the financial benefit conferred by the existence of the FDA? Pretty hard to quantify, right? But real nonetheless...and substantial.

So the idiot Toms of the world see a 20% slashing of the FDA (as outlined in Project 2025) as no big deal, when in reality it would cost more than is saved. The same goes for the NOAA, the STC, FEMA, CDC, etc. etc.

GUMMINT AM BAD has been a Republican shibboleth since at least the Ronny Raygun years. The truth is that those places in the world with the least government are the most miserable. And the places with the most government are the most prosperous.

Im sure you'll be against the next round of budget busting tax cuts Republicans pass in the same spirit you were for all the other ones.

We'll get 4 trillion dollars of tax cuts for billionaires....and we'll offset it by firing food inspectors at the FDA.

Welcome to MAGA fairy land.

I'm pretty sure some will be noticed by those affected. For one, Social Security is having to eliminate phone services (sign up, update, disability, inquiries).  Years ago those were instituted when getting a face to face appointment in local office was weeks, months behind.  I recently needed to process husband's death information, was given a telephone appointment, still weeks away but better than an office appt.  Now anyone with a SS need will be required to physically go to a local office, again long waits (do we think more office  staffing, more brick and mortar offices will come about? Ha.).  Online connections still available, so hopefully more older folks will learn that system  including usernames, passwords, etc.  Just one example.

Time will tell.

But for the stupid Toms of this world, those slashes in service will be "free" because the cost of making people wait four hours instead of two can't be easily quantified.

And of course, all that is MAGA/Project 2025/ conservatism writ small. Make the poor folks suffer so the rich can get richer.

Math. A foreign concept to you, as has been readily apparent from your posts.
