Will Rogers quotes

Below are a few Rogers quotes ( Oklahoma cowboy philosopher, political satirist, old line Dem, and entertainer from the 1920's/30's). Some of these makes one think a bit. Most are humorous. These are at least as interesting as  the typical Sink fodder.

-There ain't any finer folks living than a Republican who votes for the Democratic ticket.

I agree fully with this one - "-When the Okies left Oklahoma for California, it raised the IQs of both states."

As true then as it is now.

What used to be stiff/firm is now soft and what used to soft is now stiff

Thanks, Nines.  I printed the list to take with me to Thursday dominoes.  During our play we enjoy entertaining each other with trivia, quotations, etc.  I'll read a few lines of these during 'breaks' (we bring major snacks, LOL).

Actually, no, it couldn't possibly be true; if they were smart, they would have raised the IQ of CA but lowered that of OK; if they were dumb, they would have lowered the IQ of CA but raised that of OK.

Knowing the history of that era, I know the Okies were spat upon, reviled, insulted, treated like fourth-class citizens, etc. etc., just the way migrants are treated today...but I think it takes guts and intelligence to pack everything in an old jalopy and travel a thousand miles to a place you've never been. And Steinbeck did a great job of portraying that.

Rogers was a brilliant and witty man, but it's interesting to see that one of his quotes is a disparagement of "aliens"; another disparages women. He couldn't get completely away from the thinking of his time.
