Womp Womp Supreme Court says Trump‘s tariffs are illegal

How predictable.  All this time, Donnie's been collecting illegal taxes and breaking the law from day one.

MAGAs are so stupid. Not only did we, consumers, pay 90% of the cost of the tarrifs now we have to pay them a second time as a refund. The stupidity never ends and in fact it comes with an almost nonexistent 1.4% growth rate.

There's one particular group of innocent victims who will greatly benefit: Canadians. They've apparently been seriously hurt by the Turdiffs strangling their export markets in the US. The retaliatory tariffs they were forced to impose made American goods more expensive for them-- though their leaders didn't piss away the revenue on shit like golden throne rooms and invading their own cities.

However, as many of us have pointed out, US-Canada trade will never return to its former levels. There's still too much uncertainty as to what stupid, evil shit Trump will do next. No one's going to invest in either export or import markets until he croaks (or is croaked).

I'm sure that MAGA will tell us that the Turdiffs were bigly wonderful and brought in a new golden age. Stupid Tom will dredge up some Tom-stats "showing" us that 4.6% unemployment, near-zero job growth, and 1.4% GDP growth equate to the bigliest economy in history. Millerscum will blame it all on Democrats and tell us that Trump would have fixed it all on Day One if not for Biden, who both of them think is still President.

Canada won't be fooled again. Neither will Europe or Asia. They don't want to trade with a nation populated by fools who elected Trump-pig twice. They'll find other markets for their goods.

That was a small, 200 billion dollar error.    Don't worry, though.   I'm pretty sure Canada will still boycott our products and schedule their vacations to other countries.

when do I get my Tarrif rebate check?    Should be about $1k

What--you mean I don't get a $2000 Tariff Rebate check and the income tax isn't going to disappear?

May you live in Interesting Times!

Tariffs were quite the troll and got everyone's panties in a bunch, I still have a huge bucket of popcorn for further fireworks.

200 billion?  Chump change, the Fed injected 30 billion into the economy on February 17th, printing it from thin air as usual, did you even know about that?  Do you think 200 billion is much when they can kick zeros and ones into the system from nothing as they've done for decades?

Aren't we at 38-40 Trillion in debt with 500 Trillion in unfunded liabilities and hundreds of Quadrillions in derivatives?  Our country has been in deep doo doo for decades, maybe over a century since 1913...you know what happened that year.

I don't think we have much time before the system resets in a giant crack boom.  The globalist bankers will be bailed out first of course (from your assets) and you'll own nothing and be happy, right?

Everything goes on block chain, including your identity in this new system.

I don't know if companies and individuals that already paid the tariffs will be refunded. Nothing in the ruling requires or suggests that the government needs to repay what was already collected.

That is going to be part of a different court case. I could see that going either way.

True, but any company or individual that paid Trumpiffs was illegally taxed, so they can sue the gummint for a refund. It'll be very easy to document and prove.

The question now is whether the Turd will piss away even more taxpayer money fighting those lawsuits, or he will try to set up some kind of refunding mechanism. He's already said that he only wants to do the latter if the refunds can be restricted to those states that voted for him. So my guess is that only those companies that can afford prolonged litigation will try to get their money back.

The rest of us folks? We'll never see a dime of the money the Turd stole from us. We'll be able to tour Trump's new golden throne room for only $150, though.

Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno said it best -  “SCOTUS’s outrageous ruling handcuffs our fight against unfair trade that has devastated American workers for decades,” Moreno said in a statement. “These tariffs protected jobs, revived manufacturing, and forced cheaters like China to pay up. Now globalists win, factory investments may reverse, and American workers lose again. This betrayal must be reversed and Republicans must get to work immediately on a reconciliation bill to codify the tariffs that had made our country the hottest country on earth!”

The government will argue that they were enforcing a "good faith" interpretation of the legislation in question and thus collecting the tax was legal until the Supreme Court said otherwise.

The current precedent is that government actions are generally presumed legal until the point that they are ruled illegal.

They will argue that the courts allowed them to continue collecting the tax while the case was working through the system.
