I respect you Billy. I really do, but you are wrong. I read the new rules, and for once, I think they got everything right this time.
I will quote them:
Be respectful when posting. Excessive vulgarity, personal attacks, and threatening language are not allowed. Arguments and disagreements will occur, but please refrain from being overly aggressive or abusive. Posts that violate these rules will be removed and ongoing offenders risk being banned. Other possible reasons for removing posts include sexually explicit comments or graphics and otherwise inappropriate images, hate speech and prejudiced remarks, and advocating participation in illegal activities. We reserve the right to remove any content (links, text, or images) we deem inappropriate.
This language very clearly spells out what is not allowed. Does having rules like these allow for political posts? I clearly think they do, but if someone can’t behave himself or herself in such posts and resorts to making a personal attack on another member (for example) then they suffer the consequences, and should receive a time out. That is how the rules on just about every type of forum I have participated in since the beginnings of the modern Internet in the 1990s have worked. This is the only real way to run a busy forum made up of people with diverse opinions. Otherwise you get into a game of well no pollical posts… that is unless of course your political opinions are consistent with the most active and popular people on the forum. Then you can feel free to bring up politics in posts that have nothing to do with politics and chuckle knowing that people that have views that are different than yours aren’t allowed to participate in the discussion. That is in fact what we had here in the past whenever there has been a no political posts rules.
Let me be clear. I love the Las Vegas Advisor and the people that participate here in the forum. I have been here since 2001. There is nothing more that I want than for the new forum to succeed and be a lively place once again. On that note – I hate to break it to you, but the liveliest thread on the all new forum is a light hearted political thread.
