Yet another reason to never visit Tennessee

At a county meeting in Sevier County, Tennessee, a jerkass county commissioner named Warren Hurst told the audience:

“We’ve got a queer running for president, if that ain’t about as ugly as you can get.” He then said that he was "not prejudiced" and "a white male in this country has very few rights, and they’re getting took more every day.”

His hillbilly grammar aside, Hurst evidently doesn't understand that many white males are gay, and many gays aren't white. The immediate aftermath, though, was far more disgusting. While a lone woman stormed out in protest, the rest of the audience applauded.

The meeting was to certify gun love in the county, which is home to Dollywood. The initiative discussed was to allow open carry everywhere and forbid any restrictions on gun ownership. Take yore AR-15 into Dollywood, y'all!

If Tennessee has mostly people who approve of shithead remarks like that, I never want to go near the place. Every time I think that hatred is maybe on its way out in this country, I see something like this.

For the record, Pete Buttigleg is a thoughtful, articulate, decent man and there are far worse choices for President. Who he chooses to have sex with is his own business and wouldn't affect how he performs his duties in the White House. Much like Bill with Monica or Donnie with Ivanka.

I read an article on this guy a few days ago. He is clueless. There are tons of gay male conservatives. The older generation live in the closet, cough...cough Lindsey Graham, because they know they will never be accepted by guys like this and they still cater to those old angry bigoted white guys. 

If you go to where the young conservatives hang out a lot of them see their dream girl as a male to female passing transsexual that has a feminine penis. However, most of them have this convoluted theology that they aren't gay if they have sex with one of these "traps." Here is a complete rundown of young conservative thinking on that. As to Warren Hurst, the lady doth protest too much, methinks.

I wouldn't say thats a reason to not visit Tennessee.     Ever been to Memphis?  Its pretty awesome - and politically its as liberal as SanFrancisco. 

But Mr Hurst is right about one thing.....shitkickers like him have much less influence than they used to in politics.    Thats why our last two Republican presidents took office with a minority of the popular vote.   And thats also why people like him love Trump.  Has nothing to do with policy - they just love that he talks shit to the majority of the country which is going to ultimately make people like Warren Hurst an irrelevant minority.

PJ, I hope you're right. It's been said that the Trump presidency is the last stand of the angry old white man.

But those aren't the only people who voted for him. He got a lot of white women to vote for him (????) and even some Blacks and Hispanics (utterly inexplicable). It's symptomatic of a horrible social disease in this country that the 2016 election was even remotely close, let alone Trump actually winning. Guys like Hurst are indeed fading into the sunset, but that's happening a LOT more slowly than it should.

I agree with you about Memphis--it's a cool town. Otherwise shit states usually have one city that's worth visiting--like OKC in Oklahoma, or Minneapolis in Minnesota. Those cities are often liberal islands in a vast sea of conservative crud.

I think Hurst should have been booed out of the building, and maybe when Tennessee finally enters the 20th century (never mind the 21st), he will be.

Doubtful that Tennessee will miss Kevin's tourism.

In 2016 The Hillary won three counties out of 95 in Tennessee - the Nashville area, the Memphis area, and one just outside Memphis.  This among other things makes Tennessee quite attractive. 

So attractive that poor old DonDiego intends to relocate to the Greater Nashville area next Spring, . . . thereby exiting Appalachia.  He finds in the "Shit-state of Tennessee" (as Kevin Lewis refers to Tennessee) that Nashville (i.e. "Music City") is more welcoming and entertaining than Memphis (i.e. "Home of the Blues").

We do have a queer running for office.  Is the argument that only gays can use the word "queer", or that only blacks can call themselves "niggers", or that only Jewish people can only call themsevles "Jews", or that only those from the Orient can call themselves "Orientals".

I'm confused by the double standard, but apparantly others are not.

Plus, I just saw a female music "artist" dresses as a male for a Halloween party.  Isn't this sexist?  I'm still confused about the double standard, but apparantly others are not.
