Your Personal COVID-19 Story?

We had another death yesterday, the 6th.  Man age 65, was in the hospital diagnosed with C-19, seemed to be recovering, was discharged home.  Died at home.   No other details.  That is scary, recovering then not.

Thank you Kevin and David Miller.

By the 6th, do you mean the sixth death of someone you know? That's terrible!

That relapse seems to be a feature of Covid-19. The patient's immune system is ALMOST able to kill off the virus, but apparently fails from exhaustion and is unable to win Round Two.

This virus is very well adapted to make us a carrier. From an evolutionary standpoint, it doesn't "care" whether it kills us or not. But its long incubation time and only killing a relatively small proportion of its hosts means it has optimal chances to replicate.

I'm waiting for some nutjob to say that it's Mother Gaia's revenge on the human race.

or it weakens you enough to make you more suseptible to other stuff.

Makes you wonder what happens if you get c-19 and the flu at the same time.   I'm sure thats happened at a hospital somewhere.

I asked a friend who's a retired nurse, and she said that most of the time, if you're infected with something and you have symptoms, your body's countermeasures to kill the pathogen (fever, etc.) also make your body extra hostile to other pathogens.

Makes sense. Just about all widespread pathogens are adapted to invade human bodies with a specific, narrow range of factors such as body temperature, blood ph,  and overall body chemistry. Change one such factor, and the body is much more hostile.

Sorry I was unclear about the deaths.  It was the 6th death from C-19 in my state (Arkansas).

I don't personally know anyone who has been diagnosed, that I am aware of.

There've been 8 cases of the coronavirus in the Tennessee County in which teechur and poor old DonDiego reside.

There've been 93 cases in the County outside Nashville to which teechur and DonDiego intended to relocate next month.

Maybe the move'll be delayed a while.  DonDiego is already an old man; he'd like to be an older man next year.

EDITED TO ADD:

Apparently most of the cases in the "County outside Nashville" were in a single nursing home.

Mark and black jack, I hope your kids come out OK.

Thanks, Candy - after a trip to the emergency room my brother tested positive for the Coronavirus. He was terribly sick for almost a week but is hopefully on the upswing now. His partner also tested positive so they're self quarantining for the near future. Just a reminder that this is a nasty virus which spreads easily. They live in a very small town with limited contact to other people to begin with. Luckily they're both healthy 55 year olds with no underlying conditions - otherwise things may have been much worse. Hope you and your family stay healthy!

Hope your brother continues to improve, black jack.

My tax guy normally brings his computer to my house to do my taxes.  Supposed to come Thursday.  He told me yesterday (on the phone) he would stay outside at my front door and I am to hand him my stuff, he will take it to his office to work on.  I had already determined our "social distancing" arrangement while he would be in my house, but he said since he sees lots of people he would do it this way to protect me and other customers whom he sees in their homes.

Yesterday in Walmart I noticed those tax prep booths were busy, with the preparers and the customers (and accompanying kids) so close together.  Definitely not 6 feet apart.

I'm increasingly reluctant to go to the store, because people are ignoring the guidelines whenever they're inside. That said, people here are generally complying.

We already have data that show the positive effects of social distancing. The dum-dum Trumper states have either been slow to implement it, haven't implemented it at all, or in a couple of particularly stupid and reprehensible cases, have "defiantly" said that they won't insist on social distancing because no one can tell them what to do dad gum it.

It's quite literally their funeral. Thank God I live in a liberal state with intelligent people. I just wish everybody wouldn't forget social distancing when they go to Wally Mart. But I have long suspected that WalMart rots the brain.

Check the  virus map of the U.S., I believe that you will see that most of the virus cases are in blue states, where liberals live.
