$20 Trick

Has anyone used the $20 trick successfully when checking into Hotel for better room upgrades?
I still use it if the hotel is not sold out or all the rooms are the same. It just about always works.
Take a $20 bill, put it between your driver's license and your credit card you are using for checking in. Fold it up and just let the part that shows "20" stick out and hand it to the front desk clerk. The secret is being cool about it like you expect it. It becomes second nature pretty quick after the first couple times. Been using it for a long time. It works in other cities too. I have seen where some people say it is doesn't work anymore but they are full of crap. Try it, you'll like it, as the saying goes.
Do you just give them the $20 and assume you will get an upgrade or do you ask for an upgrade and give them the $20 if they give you one?

Give em the twenty first.
Oooo! That's a little scary. And you saying nothing?
Give em the $20. Then ask if what you want is available. Have your 2nd pick also if they can't help on your first request. They usually give the $20 back if they don't have anything.
Got it. Thanks.
