Sam's Town, anything in walking distance?

I have been pretty disappointed in staying at the strip hotels. Way too pricey. I am looking at Sam's Town for a trip this fall. I know there is a shuttle (limited number of trips per day) to the strip and downtown. I don't go to the expense of renting a car. Is there anything (stores, activities, in general cool stuff to do) within a comfortable walking distance from Sam's Town? Thanks for any advice.
Eastside Cannery - just south on Boulder Hwy past Sam's Town RV park.
Have you considered using the RTC bus system?
The Longhorn casino is in walking distance and it is worth a visit. It has some of the best blackjack rules in Vegas: $3 Minimum Double down after 3 cards Suited blackjack (in the suite of the day) gets a 6 pack of pop Food is also decent. It is not the Wynn by any stretch, but it is sure a ton of fun for blackjack players

On weekends, there is a small low budget flea market on Boulder Highway north of downtown. Not sure exactly where in relation to ST but the help will know. I second the Longhorn in you play BJ. Their VP and slots are mediocre, but you do get a cookie for signing up. Food is plentiful and cheap.
Right across the street from Sam's Town is Walmart if you need anything to buy.
"off strip" we prefer Gold Coast. equal shuttle opportunities, close to Palms and Rio (additional shuttle opportunity), and Ping Pang Pong.
