Vegas Football

Congratulations Las Vegas, You now have a professional football team.

Almost have a team. They won't come for at least two seasons, and many things can still happen in between. It is looking good. I'm saving my pennies up to get a PSL if they are at all reasonable.

I was surprised the vote was 31-1. I thought more owners might oppose it.

Way too much money for the owners to say no.

Raiders are supposedly paying each team $10 million dollars for being allowed to move. Seeing how two teams moved last year, that's $30 million dollars a team like Jacksonville has collected in relocation fees in two years.

Signed up for the Raider Season Ticket waiting list yesterday. $100 deposit is needed, if anyone is interested.

And to pay for it you can say hello to new taxes on everything from rental cars..to hotel rooms...and whatever other ways they can find to nail the out-of-staters in town. Not a fan of this move. Vegas doesn't have a loyal sports base. Everyone in town is from somewhere else originally....hence, so is their sports patriotism. And the population of the city rises and falls drastically with the economy. What happens when 100k people vacate the city in the next recession?

PJ, it will certainly prove to be interesting to see if they can fill all the seats after the first season. Or even all of the first season, maybe. A lot of us here are from somewhere else but after a while some might warm up to them. Or not. For all the talk and hype about helping out UNLV, as I watched some of the their games on TV last fall at Sam Boyd stadium, they didn't come close to half-filliong the 40,000 seats. If that's an indication of how deep the football spirit runs here, it might be less profitable than they hope at the pro level. And they didn't fill most the seats at the Las Vegas Bowl either.
