11 Ways Las Vegas Casinos Will Change After the Shutdown
The buffets will not go away. That is a pipe dream.
Article has some good ideas/views. But I disagree on a few:
1. Deals - Bean counters (BC) are running the show, especially publically traded companies. The BC mantra is that we have a fiduciary responsibility to the shareholders. Look at the 2008 recession. I thought the casinos would offer all sorts of promotions and deals. But no, they cut back even further to reduce expenses.
2. Buffets - They will continue to exist in some way, shape or form.
5. Lottery - THis has been talked about for years. Nevada does not have a large enough population to support an in-state lottery on a sustained basis. However, joining one the the multi-state lotteries (Powerball and Mega Millions) may be feasible. When the jackpot gets high enough, the local news always has a reporter just across the state line highlighting the enormous lines of Nevadians playing.
I honestly dont agree with any of the "permanent changes" you hear about in this article or many other similar predicitons from stock analysts and so fourth.
China had to deal with SARS some time ago which was far more deadlier. They still had buffets at casinos....amusement parks...not to mention the massive public transit.
There's a shock at first but as the threat disapates so do peoples' precautions. I predict a year from now this will be old news. I fully expect the accepted way to greet someone in 2021 will be to shake their hand.
If they had any guts at all they could institute no children at the grand reopening. Probably the only opportunity in our lifetime to do so, if they ALL agree on this and DO it. It has to be ALL. OK, I'd settle for no strollers like Steve Wynn tried to do years ago. Set the age where the kid can self-soothe and resist whining and crying in restaurants and buffet lines, registration lines, VIP rooms. Actually I'd say 21, bring back Vegas as an adult playground, not Chuck E Cheese World.
As far as children go, I have a refrigerator magnet that states my point of view about children - "Children of Premissive PARENTS Admitted Only on a LEASH.
Will I be back? Yes.
I'm going nukking futz in self isolation!
Are the buffets loss leaders? My coupons work well.
I'm bouncing off the walls over here.
My temp was 100.1* this morning. What?Down to 99.3* later.
This boy may be toast.
Please carry on,my friends.

Candy, agreeded on the children! Things that tend to bother me is folks who bring their children to any buffet and let them "pick and serve" their own items!!!!! Sorry, but a 4 year old has no reason plating his own food. if by utensils or simply by fingers! Maybe parents will be more aware of this after the virus scare. BUT, I doubt it.
NUKKING FUTZ! I'll force feed my self and go back to bed.Maybe in the land of OZ,I'll wake up to see we will be OK.A general anesthic will be administered. NO LIMES!
Be strong,people.
