Air Fare

I'm thankful that I have a job with a relatively flexible schedule, so I can buy plane tickets a long time out, while they're still cheap. I'm done for this year, so now I'm looking for February '13. No bargains yet, but there's a long way to go.

Now if I can catch them at 179 $ each way that is good as they usually run 201 $. I fly Southwest, even with the prices increasing they are still the cheapest for the non-stops and the times I like to fly.

Don't ignore Cont-United -sometimes they will throw in a late cheap rate on a couple of flights.

Airfare from Detroit has gone up almost $100 per person and on American it doubled. I always look for a good deal on airfare but I am thinking that there won't be any this year. The seats are smaller, and some airlines they charge now for a window seat.

We flew Delta last time and they told me the seats I had since last year were not available. They were but they impliemented they next to biz class and wanted to charge more. Pity, the airlines don't get it and haven't for a long time..Lower the fares, fill the planes, and you won't go bankrupt...Next thing you know
they will charge for the use of the bathrooms..

They have raised fares and fill the fewer seats available on fewer flights. They used to not get it but they have gotten smarter. Let's face it - we all got spoiled by the too cheap fares that could not be sustained.
SW can no longer ride the fuel hedge they once benefited from, so they are facing reality just like the other airlines.
I have only one non stop option - Southwest. I've been watching it to plan my next trip. It's been about 30% higher than normal, and today went up $10 one way. Still waiting...

I jumped on a Delta fare for December 2012 because SW and Jet Blue had not extended schedules into December at the time. Bos- LV R/T $249.05.
I always like to buy my plane ticket for my June trip by the end of Feb. 2 years ago I paid $200, last year $300, and this year $400...that's the highest I ever paid. Last year after I bought my ticket the price never went below what I paid, and the same seems to be happening this year. The price for my flight with the two segments I chose has been running $500-$700 ever since I bought my ticket.

I fly Delta, Det-LV.

Good luck. SW has not made my Nov trip dates available yet does seem to be running higher. I will be hopeful.

Major drop today for some dates this year. I saw a United flight for $87 one way from Chicago in June. AA also has it but they were pretty hard to find.
Political Motivation has taken its hold on this country in every way imaginable.

United is in bankruptcy (and probably the worst major airline out there nowadays), so they are about the only one to throw out prices even resembling a deal anymore. Alas, if you have to plan well ahead, they're pretty much not somethiong that's going to grab the casual buyer by the throat.
