Always just before I go to Vegas, trouble happens

Every time I start to pack for Vegas something gets in my way. The water heater breaks, the dog gets sick, a child has a boo-boo, my mother has a crisis (I just stopped telling her when I go) but it is always something time consuming and usually expensive.

This time heavy thunderstorms rolled through last night keeping us awake. At 5:00 this (Sunday) morning a lighting strike sets off my house alarm waking the neighborhood. The control panel is fried and the siren wails on and on. I crawl through the attic insulation and find the siren. After cutting the wires and silencing the wail I track loose insulation back through the house to the bedroom. My wife is not a fun person at 5:00 Sunday morning and is not amused.

Now my son tells me that the upstairs heat/ac is out. A call to my friendly repairman finds that lightning has hit many local houses but I'm on his list.

We leave for Vegas Wednesday morning, can I expect at least one more last minute problem?

Of course the other curse is when I am solo in Vegas while my wife and dogs are huddled in a closet as tornadoes roll through the neighborhood which also amuses her. My daughter takes this opportunity to wreck my car!

Such is life, anyway I am going to Vegas
So sorry Rockymet, That really sucks. That should do it. I look forward to you having a great trip and winning big.
So sorry you go through all of that each trip. I hope you have a terrifically successful trip to make up for it all!
That really sucks Rockymet. Maybe the bigger the problems, the bigger the jackpot.

Wow, Rockymet, that really stinks!

Did anything happen to you before your trip when we met up last June? I at least hope that some of that bad stuff has been made up by having good trips!

Take care and have a safe, fun and profitable trip! I'll hopefully be there in 2 weeks (possibly from 4/10 to 4/13).

I'm sorry I had to smile when I read your post--you could be me. LOL We leave Tuesday night and I'm just waiting for something to happen. Also have things happen while we are on our trip. My Dad passed away while we were in Vegas last time. Hubby is a Lt. on the fire dept and twice there has been a major incident while on the trip (his phone then rings off the hook). Just remember--what happens, happens if you stay or go. Good luck.
RecVPPlayer,

Thanks for remembering our June meet, it was a civilized hour during a comedy of errors. After our annual April trip my wife gave her blessing for me to take a June solo trip. An Atlanta friend who was on a job in Fargo, ND invited himself along. At the last minute his wife decided to join us and booked the same flight as me. So naturally at the Atlanta airport, church friends caught me boarding a flight to Vegas with my friends wife.

LVA friends, I hope you think well enough of me to know that if I was going to sneak away to Vegas with a friends wife I would at least book separate flights!

Then on my solo trip I was a tour guide. When they flew back to Atlanta I stayed an extra day to relax. I then tried for a July solo trip and my son came along. Then tried again in August and my son, wife and her buddy joined my "solo" trip. We had a good meet with some of you. For my birthday in September I slipped away alone without telling anyone except my wife.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement, I am sitting at home waiting for the ac repairman and organizing coupons.
Sorry to hear about your ongoing pertrip troubles. Mine are minor snaffues compared to you. I do remember two very well.

About 20 years ago, a friend and I were heading down. This was my buddy's first trip there. I had fownd a super package and at his request, had all the docs. I woke about 3 in the morning and for some reason, the docs came to mind. I knew I wouldn't fall back asleep until I checked them. I got up, went to my bag and couldn't find them. Long story short, I spent the next hour searching, only toi find them in my bag as they should be. I probably missed them being half asleep. I couldn't fall back asleep at this point, so I was dead on my feet the first day there. Wonderful.

The other case was a few years back. My nephew was going to take me to the airport around 6 in the morning. I told him to call when he got up. He's a heavy sleeper, so I gave myself an extra window of time to allow for him being late. About 20 minutes after he should have called, I started calling him, getting no answer. I went to call my brother who lives a few blocks from me, but couldn't find my cell. I had packed it as I would find out once I got to Vegas. Without my cell I had no way of getting my brother. I didn't know his number! So I hoofed it over to his place and got him up. He threw a coat on and drove over to my house. I dash in, get my things and rush out to see my nephew pulling up! He wondered what was wrong. After explaining the importance of answering phones and other meaningless tasks such as checking messages, I strangled him and we were on our way!

Coming back from Vegas I don't care if my plane's delayed. how the weather is, or even if the checkout line at the tv in my room is extra long! For the trip down though, I like things to happen in an orderly manner.

Good Luck!

I know exactly what you are talking about! Our heat pump went out today - 47 degrees in North Carolina right now - and it will cost $3800 to replace! I have my trip booked to Vegas next month for my 50th so my gambling budget has just been cut! Oh well - I am still going! Hope all works out well with you. Happy gambling.
All I can say is "Wow" and it always seems to be something for you -- that certainly is some excitement (and possible headaches)!

Again, hopefully the badness is at least most always made up by decent enough and hopefully profitable enough (or minorly losing) periods in LV!
