Antenna TV in Vegas?

Looking to retire in Vegas. Sick of cable bills. What is the quality like for antenna only TV in Vegas?
You kidding?

Can't say I've ever seen an antenna..........anywhere in Vegas.

Well, at least not in any part of town I'd want to live.
That's a good question! I bought my place here in Mpls. I do live in a Condo and I plugged my TV into the wall and get approx 15 free channels over the air including all the majors, ABC, CBS, NBC etc. Havn't had a cable bill in 6 years now. My older TV required a converter box, that I got for free due to a Gov. rebate and my newer TV needs no antenna at all, mater of factly it doesn't even have one. So I hope you can achieve this in Vegas. P.S. I have no antenna on the roof nor does my building, and there is no " free " cable etc. involved in my building, I am not on ground level though.
I didn't even know there was still such a thing as a TV antenna anymore, lol. I'm sure the HOA's in Vegas would never allow such a thing on anyone's roof.

What is this strange thing he speaks of. Antenna?

Makes me think there also was something before satellite radio.

Bought a set top plug in antenna from Amazon for $37. Pulls in perfect picture from all local affiliates ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and PBS. Only use it in spare bedroom but if one works that well in Vegas I will not pay for cable.
Most viewing is the networks and we have a WII for netflix so why pay?
I bought a small color TV $39.95 on sale at Office Max last summer with a 7 in. screen, battery or plug in, to watch while camping etc. Its very compact about the size of a book, maybe smaller. Anyways it works good enough on a picnick table to watch a game etc. I may try and bring that with me to Vegas next time and see what I can get poolside or from my room, that would be a way to know what someone could pull in over the air, Just an idea ?
A portion of The Telecommunications Act of 1996 contains a section on over-the-air TV antennas. This law makes it legal to install an outside antenna with certain restrictions, such as try to install it on the back of the house - unless it is necessary to have it located elsewhere to receive "an acceptable signal". Also there is a height restriction of no more than 12 feet above the rear roofline - unless again it must be higher to receive "an acceptable signal". There is also a section of the law that discusses how condo and apartment residents may use outdoor antennas (I have not read that section). However, the really interesting thing is - local governments and homeowners associations are essentially overruled and cannot prevent the installation of outside antennas. The homeowner is allowed to install the antenna and it is the responsibility of the HOA to try to prove the antenna should not be installed.

Now, having said all of this, I cannot offer any insight on the quality over over-the-air antenna reception in Vegas. I simply wanted to point out it is legal to have one.

How does one argue with someone on this subject who has the screen name antennanut? LOL

I can see it now.....Happy Trails HOA vs. KSeitz in the matter of violating a deed restriction by having an unsightly antenna potruding from the roof of your home.

Court: "Mr. KSeitz, call you first witness."

KSeitz: "Thank you, Your Honor. I'd like to call Antennanut to the stand."

Happy Trails Counsel: "Your Honor, we'd like to withdraw our complaint".

Makes me almost want to throw one up on the balcony just to see what the HOA will say!

Not that it is any longer relavent but I never concidered an outside antenna.
