Baker Has Some Good LV Related Stuff To Pick Up -- Re: LVA QOD 4/6/14

Hey Group,

In Baker, across the street from the Mad Greek Restaurant and not far from the "World's Largest Thermometer" (which hasn't functioned in at least a couple of years) is a Country Market where among other things (such as them having all kinds of Different kinds of Specialty Sodas [aka "Pop"] and having many winners of some of the big Lottery games) they also have racks of all kinds of vouchers for all kinds of Las Vegas related stuff plus some of the Las Vegas Freebie Magazines which should be checked out for those people who are coming to Las Vegas from Southern California and elsewhere.

The sooner that you can look over that stuff, the better off you'll be because it could give you some other options as for where to go and what to do.

And I asked one of the workers there where they go for shopping and to doctors and the woman said that they have to go to Barstow for that (which is about 75 Miles away [South] one way).

Didn't Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) try to goad the kids in wanting to stop and see "The World's Largest Thermometer" in one of the Vacation movies? I didn't know there actually is one!

I haven't seen any of those Vacation movies but yes, there actually is a World's Largest Thermometer but as I said, unfortunately it hasn't been working in a while. I would guess that it probably was in the "Vegas Vacation" movie since it is on the way to Las Vegas from Los Angeles.

So yes, this thermometer is in Baker (which is about 190 Miles from Los Angeles and about 90 Miles from Las Vegas).

You also used to be able to go inside of this edifice and there was more information including the Wind Speed (in digital format) at the time.

I should add in that there are a lot of different types of restaurants (and Gas Stations) there in Baker and I find it a nice break to take.

People for body circulation reasons have been urged to stop every hour or so to get up and move around some since prolonged sitting and not moving much can cause problems such as Blood Clots. And so between Southern California and Las Vegas, I find it good to stop both in Barstow as well as in Baker for about 10 minutes or so.

And so then checking out the vouchers and magazines for Las Vegas at that point could end up killing two birds with one stone -- stopping to take a break and possibly getting more ideas on what to do (and you could easily save some more money as well).
