The best Las Vegas promotion we participated in

The wife and I were reminiscing about "old Las Vegas" and chose this one promotion as the best. Harrah's, before changing to Caesars, ran a promotion to get foot traffic into six of their casinos. We're guessing that was in 2006 0r 2007. You would visit a casino and they would stamp a card . Bally's and Paris had one line for two stamps. Three stamps would get you a $10.00 voucher for food at any of the properties outlets. Getting the other three stamps would get you a $20.00 voucher. You could get $30.00 in food vouchers every day that the promotion ran. You could also get freebies along with the vouchers. I got $50.00 once and a tee shirt another time. We live 90 miles from the strip and had free rooms at Paris, Bally's and the Gold Coast. We got hundreds of dollars in food vouchers. When we heard that the promotion was going to end earlier than originally planned, we headed to Las Vegas to get our final vouchers. We ate at the Rio buffet, Paris buffet and Bally's buffet several times using the vouchers. The best was when we decided to see if Bally's Sterling Brunch would take the vouchers. I called and they said yes they would take the vouchers. The Sterling Brunch was $65.00 at that time and was easily the best buffet in Las Vegas. We would never have partaken of the Sterling Brunch without those vouchers.

One memory that stands out is the number of homeless people standing in line at Caesars Palace. We really did enjoy that promotion.

How did you know they were homeless? Did you interview them all?

Or could they simply have been ordinary folks who were taking advantage of a rare opportunity to have a nice meal for free, exactly the way you were?

I used to deal blackjack and craps in Vegas, and one thing I learned quickly was that there is NO correlation between how somebody in Vegas dresses and how rich or poor they are. One guy I knew refused to deal in a shabby-looking guy because the table minimum was $25. The guy's hands were in his pockets, which were full of $100 chips. Turns out he was a regular customer. The dealer was sacked.

Also...locals taking advantage of a promotion is extremely common in Vegas. They're very used to, and not impressed by, the glitzy casino environment, so they may not dress as well as the tourists.

Packer, I think Harrah's may have re-initiated that promo, or it has been going on, or whatever.  I recently spent a short time in Harrah's Gulf Coast, Biloxi MS.  My gambling friend knew she had $400 in Free Play which was the reason we popped in there.  She suggested I swipe my card to see if I had any FP.  Not to my surprise, I had none, but I was directed to enroll (by merely clicking on the promo icon) in that promo.  I clicked on it but doubt I'll be visiting many Harrah's casinos in the specified time frame, let alone five more.  And sorry I didn't visit the TR desk to find out more about it.  I remember this promo from years back, though doubt I "earned" enough "badges" (they called it a badge when you visited a Harrah's) to earn anything.  I am surmising that it now is kept up with electronically, no cards to stamp, but that could be wrong.

Candy, I think I saw that promo you're speaking of this week at Horseshoe Tunica.  I also enrolled, knowing I wouldn't visit the required number of casinos.  They are calling it the same as a promo they did a few years ago, the "Race for Rewards".

You once said that you donated $50,000.00 to the homeless kevin. How did you know that money was going to the homeless. Anyone can tell a homeless person by their dirty clothing,, their dirty/smelly body and their eyes. The homeless always have a look to them that is unmistakable. You can argue the point if you want, but you'll only prove that you don't know what you're talking about. Maybe I should have said "chronically homeless". There is no mistaking a local and a homeless person. Why do you even try?

Candy,

The promotion was only for five casinos on the strip (Paris, Bally's, Flamingo, Harrahs and Caesars) and the Rio. It was a great promotion, but only for those casinos. This was before Harrahs changed to Caesars in 2010.

Caesars is doing a Quest for Rewards during August and September at all properties.  Check your online account for more info.

Oh yeah, they're dirty and smelly and just generally subhuman. Regarding them as such makes it much easier to not help them. And to answer your question, I knew my donation was going directly to help the homeless because I also directly participated in distributing food and essentials such as personal hygiene supplies. And yes, while there were some "smelly and dirty" people among those we helped, the majority wanted, sometimes desperately, to stay clean and take care of themselves. For instance, the single most requested item was disposable razors, followed by bottled water.

You're the one who doesn't know what he's talking about, but I know the futility of arguing against belief, especially with someone from, um, your side of the fence. I've worked directly with homeless people, and I can guarantee that one of the biggest obstacles they face is stigmatization. They get sneered at by people like you on a daily basis. So forgive my rather vehement reaction to your speaking out of bias and ignorance, and I sincerely hope that the next guy in front of you in the buffet line isn't a worthless, subhuman homeless bum.

No matter how many times I read and reread PackerBackerAZ reply did I see/read where he said they were worthless and subhuman - I believe that those are your words. And just where was he speaking of "out of bias and ignorance"?

I didn't say that he said those exact words. And his characterization of the people he saw as homeless merely because of their appearance is strongly indicative of both bias and ignorance.

But please don't pretend that you actually give a crap about this topic. You're just playing your little game of following me around from forum to forum, for the sole purpose of criticizing whatever I say, like some crazed stalker.
