I will be spending my BIG 40 in Vegas this year. Looking for ideas for lounge/nightclubs to celebrate with a group ranging from 21 to 50. We will be entertaining Las Vegas "newbies" so I want to make a good impression.
When exactly are you going? I don't think you can ever miss with Mandalay Bay. I'm going in 2 weeks for my birthday, St. Patty's Day. I always stay at The hotel at Mandalay Bay. But we are staying in a Penthouse at Vdara and The Cosmopolitan. I will let you know how they are. The newbies will want to go to a club. Don't waste your time unless you know someone. Otherwise you will be standing in line for your birthday. Margaritaville is a lot of fun. Sometimes Jimmy Buffet will show up unannounced. My son likes The Pub at the Monte Carlo. If you like Prince check out Purple Reign.
top of the rio is a pretty good view, not to hard to access except weekends. since i dont go there to party,others may have a better read on the party potential. m
If you don't mind pricey cocktails, I spent the evening after my birthday at the Chandelier bar at Cosmo. It was a Saturday evening and there was plenty of room for everyone. Which kind of surprised me. You can bar hop through all three levels of the bar. each has its own specialty cocktail menu

Thanks to all for great advice! Will be in Vegas Aug. 17th - 30th. We have always had a good time at the Pub at Monte Carlo. That could be a fun start. Anyone know anything about Bahama Breeze ?
