Can housekeepers accept non-monetary gifts?

I generally leave a few bucks for the housekeeper on the tv stand upon checking out.   Last trip I found myself in possession of three bottles of liquor thanks to  promotions at El Cortez and the Stations.       I do like my booze but I dont need to bring home a complete bar set in my suitcase.

I ended up leaving the housekeeper a nice bottle of unopened Jose Cuervo Silver along with her normal tip - but I wondered if she would keep it or throw it out....or if she had to forfeit it to the hotel or something.

I also frequently leave behind whatever coupons I end up not using - I figure they might like the discount buffets.

I'm sure every hotel has their own rules - but does anyone know the policy in general?

If it were me, I'd think that you were a cool guest. I too have left alcohol for housekeeping a few times, but it was just a couple of bottles of beer in the fridge and some pops.

We've left a few things: flowers, fruit baskets, tournament/promotion trinkets, etc.  Whether the housekeeper wanted them, tossed them, stowed them in case a guest called back about it, donated them for the employee Christmas party gift swap, or was required to turn them in, we didn't care one way or the other.

I think if I particularly wanted the housekeeper to have an item, I would tag it as such.  I'm thinking that way they could definitely accept it as a tip and not get into trouble for keeping the item.

Exactly right -- you need to attach a note saying this is a gift, sign your name, and state the room number.  (I was told this by a Sam's Town employee when we wanted to leave a bottle of wine and some coupons, as I'm sure others do.  She this information allows the housekeeper to leave the property with the items.  This was several years ago, so I don't know if that policy is still in effect.)

Might be a good question of the day for LVA.

It has been submitted.

I've left alcohol for the maid because you can't take it back on a plane. Then it dawned on me, how do I know the housekeeping person is 21? Can you get in trouble for providing alcohol to a minor?

Good question.

The charge would be Contributing to the delinquency of a minor. CDOM.

No knowingly!  You will be fine.

The casino housekeeping staff knows who is not 21.

  The gift would be forfitted,IMO.
