Charge for Parking

I totally get the complaint. I was shocked a few years ago when I visited Atlantic City and had to pay to park. It was a dreary Wednesday in November I think, the casinos and their garages were empty, but I had to cough up $5 to park. Made no sense to me.

But I get it for the Vegas strip. That part of town is (almost) always busy, and there's always a lot of fun to be had just wandering around the strip, not spending much money. I get that they need to charge sightseers something.

When Disneyland first opened in 1955, an adult could walk around inside the park for just $1, about $9 in today's dollars. Like that, this is going to evolve.

Perhaps we'll get to the point where people can buy an weekly or monthly pass good up and down the strip, where locals can buy a $39 annual parking pass, and where rental car companies will offer renters some sort of pass too. Lots of options here.
Here's a thought, a 'for instance': Would Aria charge $5 to park while Bellagio charged $7? Or will they all need to come to an agreement on price, to prevent Bellagio guests from parking at Aria and tramming it over to Bel?

For a measly $2, no, but for those who like to come and go multiple times during the day (gamble, eat, show), it would add up.

Will there be "Parking Wars" in Las Vegas? Ha.

Can you imagine the bottle neck after a show such as "O" or "Ka" or "Love", if each car has to stop at the exit point to pay, whether by human or a credit card machine?

At our airport, thank God they have 5 exit booths from the parking deck, 2 human, 2 human and/or credit card, and one credit card only. The credit card machines confuse some folks (and honestly, I can't blame them), and you sit forever behind someone until they figure out which to insert first, the ticket or the credit card (and actually it works either way, but the instructions aren't so clear as to that).

Hopefully, systems would be worked out to avoid the gridlock. Or maybe they won't be able to figure out how to do this without alienating loyal hotel guests and they'll give it up. Ideally, hotel guests, at least, would get a parking pass (free) to use during the stay.

Vegas + Change = Apoplexy. It's as if no one travels elsewhere.
Ah, Ken, you bad boy! Didn't you know...Vegas is unlike "elsewhere."

The time of day, and the emptiness of the casino and garage have nothing to do with the parking fee and what sense it makes. The parking fee is mandated by the STATE thus the casinos charge it to comply. Granted it's only $4 and anything they charge above and beyond that goes into their pockets.

Chilcoot here is the state of New Jersey reasoning on charging to park in AC.

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 5:12-173.2, a charge shall be imposed for the use of a parking space for the purpose of parking, garaging or storing a motor vehicle in a parking facility or property owned or leased by a casino hotel or by any person on behalf of a casino hotel. The minimum amount of such charge is currently $3.00 per day. The charge imposed pursuant to such section, including any charges over and above the minimum charge, is subject to the 7% sales tax because it is not a “receipt subject to tax pursuant to any other law or ordinance.” N.J.S.A. 54:32B-3 (i). The sales tax must be reported and remitted on the casino hotel’s sales and use tax returns.

The New Jersey sales tax is not imposed on parking for employees of the casino hotel, if the parking is provided by the casino hotel or at a facility owned or operated by the casino. N.J.S.A. 54:32B-3 (i).

NOTE: Effective July 1, 2007, the law was amended to exclude the $3 minimum fee from the receipt subject to tax. There is also an exclusion for parking charges or fees imposed pursuant to an agreement between the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) and a casino operator which was in effect as of June 28, 2007. Any amount collected over and above these fees remains subject to sales tax. Between October 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007, the $3 Atlantic City parking fee was subject to the sales tax.

I love the new parking fees! Can't wait to pay!

OK - that was a total lie.
Just another reason to avoid the strip for me.

I wouldn't "avoid the strip"...Just avoid MGM properties, since they are the 1's charging to park AFTER March madness is over!!!!

How long do you think it will be B4 CET starts charging? They're hemorrhaging money as it is.
