Circus Circus, Slot o Fun, Riviera

Wandered down to check out how busy things were on a Wednesday around noon. Couldn't even get on a Blackjack table at Slots o Fun...Not because they were full but bcause ALL were covered and there were no dealers around. The cashier was also closed. Looked arund in Circus Circus and Rviera and they both had very few players. Granted these are well-worn casinos, but they have always had customers. Is the economy that bad for Las Vegas?
The economy is bad for those three dumps!
I agree with Don the Dentist. Granted, the economy is bad, but why would anybody want to play at any of these 3 properties? Back in the 90's, I would frequently stop in at the Riv. I even stayed there a couple times. Last year, I stopped in for old times sake. I was shocked at how unappealing the property had become. I used the mensroom and it was downright nasty. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days.

I can see how Slots a Fun stays in business considering it has low overhead and can probably attract some low rollers. How the Clown Palace and the Riv stay in business is being me.
Stayed in circus's west tower earlier this year; I liked it pretty well. Lets just say it was quiet, clean enough for me and the furnishings were at least what I expected for an aged property. The casino was not busy. It will be busier when the world comes back, as usual, to the sarno's gamble across from the riv, when europeans take their august vacay. I dont imagine it will last long. The riv, I'm happy to report, coughed up not a lung but a jackpot on me in april. But I see they have taken all of the high limit machines to one side since then. What they will do there, I can't tell. But I know I'll be back to see how high the JOB progressive goes. Slots-o....why anyone goes, after the dog deal departed the POV, I cant tell. I miss the frontier and the ancient home of sports betting, the stardust, as the downtown crowd is increasingly hip. Good Luck!

I saw something that really shows the sight of the times. At circus-circus they used to have $1 machines on a rotating carousel, now that same carousel has penny machines.
Circus Circus burned its mortgage long ago and is famous for continuing to turn a healthy profit for MGM.

Today's penny slots are often more profitable for the casino than yesterday's dollar slots.

That area is the downtrodden K-Mart of Vegas' casinos, CC and SOF still perform for their owners.

......... and what happened to the $1 Hot Dogs at Slots-a-Fun ?????

I was there in May, and it looked like they were putting a SubWay in that food area.

Rick
I remember 50 cent Jumbo hot dogs at Slots-of-Fun
I think those properties are really hit-or-miss with visitors. 2 years ago I went into the Riviera to play a few hands and their were more employees than customers. This past winter I went in there again and it was packed.

Circus Circus and Slots-a-Fun seem to be the same way. Sometimes they are crowded and sometimes they are dead. With all of their neighbors closing shop there is less pedestrian traffic doing the pop-ins so they are more reliant on their own hotel guests....and lets face it, their hotels are not a strong selling point.
Well, I have not been in any of them for a long time.

However, Slots is a great people-watching place.

Their BJ has gone way down from what it was in yesteryear times.

Their 3-card is what I played when I used to stop in there for an hour or so.

It's not really the gambling that attracts me there.

It's the hodgepodge of people that's the lure.

That's also my main reason for visiting the Golden Gate. That and DuPars Restaurant.

It's fun for me to see and talk to the many characters these places offer.

It stimulates my feeble mind to come up with
ideas for projects.
