Credit Card Fraud Alert, Not the Phone call you want to get...

Just got back from Vegas few days ago.
As I was literally driving home from the airport.........got a call from Mastercard asking if I made
a $10 charge at a shoe store in Texas?

No. I just got back from Vegas. Didn't go anywhere near Texas. So the charge was stopped.
That M/C acct. will be closed, and new acct & card to be issued. Takes 7 days for new card to arrive.

I immediately began thinking of where I had used my card, and what might have happened?

I checked into LV Hilton, Harrahs & Caesars, this trip.
Also had my card used at Budget rental car, as it was the first time I've rented from there.
Did Not use my card for any other uses.

Not sure where it happened? How it happened?
But this is the second time it has happened. Other time was a couple years ago.
Same scenario. A small charge made.........on the East coast & M/C caught it. Acct. closed. yada yada.

Heads up.
Yes, it is not a good thing! It happened to me several years ago when I was away at work for a while!

It's rotten! I wonder if the CC Company can get the store to have some video of the person who used the card to make the charge and then give it to the police!

So sorry to hear that CLV. I'm glad it wasn't a lot but I'm sure it is a really creppy feeling and I feel violated for you! I'm wondering if someone wanted to "test" the card out to see if it would go through, using a small amount, and if so the plan might have been to do something much bigger. Thank goodness your CC company was on the ball and caught it early.
Bummer CLV -it has happened to us as well and I suspect FFlowers is right- the $10 was a test charge.
I am very happy that it was discovered before any real damage was done- and it was discovered after Vegas.

Same here but the weird thing is they bought on-line plants for $35. I caught it when reviewing my bill.
I got one of those calls.
"Did you make a charge to your XXXX account for five thousand dollars in the last half hour?"
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Like with CLV, it was immediately stopped, account closed, new card sent.

How do they catch these things so fast? I've made big charges before, no call.

CLV's charge was for ten bucks.

What told them this one didn't look right?

You're all right.
I totally believe it was a TEST charge. Just like when someone on the EC got ahold of it.
I think someone Here..........emails the # to their friend/family, elsewhere, and they Use it til its caught.

I think the next charge would have been much bigger. Much like Candys. I just hope Candys crooks
didn't get to keep their 5k bounty, and were Caught.

Yep, I don't understand HOW the CC caught it so fast?

I just checked my CC acct. online, and it still shows a $10 charge for Champs, PENDING. Hmmmmmm
You'd think they'd Erase it.
The Acct. # has already been changed. But I would think the $10 would be Gone.
We had someone get ahold of our debit card # somehow and how much we use it(no credit cards) i was studying the bill one month and noticed a 27.56 charge or something like that. I didn't think to much of it because we our card all the time and it was only 28 bucks. I noticed it again and became suspicious. Sure enough it was some one using our # thinking it was such a small amount, that we wouldn't notice. They were right, turns out they had been doing it for months. The bank reimbursed us and said they were going after them. All we got was a nmae and I googled it,these guys had been doing the same scam on a LOT of people. No idea if they ever got caight.

Happened to us last year after a trip to Vegas. We go everywhere around town so not sure when/where it could have been stolen. There is no way to prevent it that I am aware of short of not using the card.

We should have been alerted by a charge (made after our trip) to 1-800-Flowers that was made and cancelled using our CC number. We thought it was just a mistake that was made and corrected but turned out to be the "test" to make sure the card was valid. Shortly thereafter we had numerous charges made in England to our CC (we are from Virginia) that did alert the credit card company and subsequent notification to us.

A real hassle.
I have been afraid of this happening when I go to Vegas, last couple trips I have gone to Walgreens, paid the additional $4.95 and put $500 on a gift card and have used that. Works great with restaurants and getting show tickets. Also allows you to watch the charges as they go on your cell phone if you have internet access...Small cost for piece of mind since I use debit cards and not credit cards anymore...
